Horton's worth a lot more than Montoya at this point.

I apologize, on that note.

Agreed.

I think what he was saying though is that he might not be worth giving up Montoya for, as the consensus of Ranger fans on these boards would like to see him traded for an established franchise center IE: Lecavalier (although we know Vinny L won't happen).

Franchise centerman aren't usually available.

Youre acting as if Pitsburgh would be salivating over these 3 guys...I dont think that question is even worth answering because the Penguins would simply laugh at Sather if he ever presented that deal.

Montoya wont bring in any star power until he proves he can perform at the NHL level. Dawes couldnt hold onto an NHL roster spot this season, and Callahan (I love this kid, by the way but....) has showed heart and hustle, but needs to show some more scoring consistency before being included in a deal of this magnitude.

Malkin is going to evolve into a franchise type player. With Malkin, along with Crosby and Staal the Penguins are stacked up front and would almost certainly demand Marc Staal + for Malkin.

If he gets dealt, fine. Just not to someone in the division. Hopefully not even the conference.

That's why I said we know Vinny L won't happen.

There's no reason to give up a franchise player.

Fleury is too good and too young for the Pens to give up on him. Montoya should be a good fit for the Rangers. Weekes needs to go ASAP and I think Montoya could fill that spot easily.

I'd rather wait and see what Montoya is made of before we even consider doing anything, unless some really absurd offer comes our way, which won't happen. I really want to see him in blue, though.

By any chance are you related to Larry Brooks?

lets say monty doesnt get traded, do you guys think he can assume the backup role in the NHL with two full seasons under his belt in the AHL? I think he can, that said I don't see the need in the rangers organization to trade him... UNLESS, we can get a legit 2nd line center for him.

I'd like to see Lundqvist and Montoya splitting time for years to come.

I rarely ever get into made up hockey trades but I just thought this completely out of the blue and feel compelled to post.. personally would love it if it were to happen.. mind you I have absolutely no clue if the caps have a goaltending prospect or not

Nicklas Backstrom, third 2007
for
Montoya, Nigel Dawes, second 2008

comments on value? sensibility?

Caps drafted Varlamov with their 2nd 1st last June. even without Varlamov, they wouldn't touch this one.

I just saw that Washington's strengths is actually IN goal so that pretty much makes this ridiculous.. so continue commenting on the value please or make a similar offer involving Montoya to acquire a top center prospect.

some guy in the trade forum countered with Staal and Montoya for Backstrum.. is he on undervaluing our guys or is Backstrum that good?

Backstrom's really special, I wouldn't do that trade, but he's really good.

John said that Horton is worth a lot more than Montoya at this point, which is most definitely true, so I said I agreed, but said that in response along with it because I thought he misunderstood the original poster's message.

I agree with you when you say that you'd rather wait and see. We can gauge his value on the open market that way, and optimize a potential return in a trade that way.

Worst comes to worst, we have Beezer/Richter part 2, which is not bad at all.
