Umm...no...this is the time of year that you usually sign your unsigned draft picks, undrafted collegiate, junior, and Europeans.

Laakso, Sulzer, Setzinger...look around the league...other teams are doing the same thing.

NHL free agency doesn't start for another few weeks. The only NHL free agents you are seeing signed right now are players RESIGNING with their current team. Obviously that is a concern for us right now, but bashing signings to bolster the organizational depth is just plain wrong.

I completely understand how NHL free agency works. And I realize that most of these signings are to keep those players in the organization. My post is a bit negative but it strikes me as odd as we are just now signing Setzinger, especially after he was supposedly dropped from the organization.

I think most of us are saying this tongue in cheek, but with a cautious pessimism as well. Would you say it's out of the realm of possiblity that Balsillie would keep the on-ice product to less-than-desirable? Especially in light of the fact that he's now looking at two years instead of one. A couple of high draft picks to build around for his team in Ontario...

Setzinger Interview

in German: http://derstandard.at/?id=2896950

Interesting information is that he was in talks with 6 NHL teams, including Boston. According to this interview his contract is worth 850k (i think thats still rookie max).

Apparently the Predators told him that they want him in the NHL, not in the farm.
