I think it was just a forehead laceration. It didn't hit his eyes or nose or jaw, so he should be ok, I think. It was a blast and a half though and didn't hit any sticks.
He got very lucky, it hit just between his eyes and the lid of his helmet. Sami Salo almost claimed another eye victim (the first being Ohlund and Nagy).

I think he'll be fine. Hope so anyway. The shot didn't look too bad on replay, but he went down fast and hard. I'm more concerned about Ricci. That looked like a concussion. A puck in the head is no picnic either though.
If you watch the replay Salo's shot hit Thornton's glove, redirected and then hit McLaren in the head. So it wasn't Sami's fault. Scary incident. Hope McLaren is OK.

its what happens when you try to play hero against salo

glove or no glove that's not Sami's fault. He obviously wasn't going to try and shoot the puck right at Mclaren. Mclaren was a wrong place wrong time victim. Salo seems to have the worst luck with these. The high-stick on Nagy, and now this. I hope he doesn't feel too guilted by these incidents, especially the Nagy one, because he took a lot of heat for that.
Even stranger, that was the second Shark player on that shift to catch the puck with his face. I seem to recall that Stewart? (maybe), had the puck run up his stick and smack him in the kisser as well.
Also of note. How many players have gone down to injuries, and pretty serious ones at that, to the Canucks this season?
Wasn't it Salo's stick that also took out Berard's eye?
no that was hossa. the situations were completely different. salo's shot was accidental as it was all the happenings of the puck. but hossa recklessly swung his stick backwards then forwards in a huge swinging motion to launch off a slap-shot. granted, hossa didn't intend to hit anyone with his stick but it was completely his fault in the use of his stick

Have you ever spun around and took a slapshot as fast as you could?
As for McLaren....the puck hit him right where a visor would have saved him from injury.
if McLaren misses any time the Injured-Against-The-Canucks list grows even larger
Smyth
Hatcher
Zetterberg
Jackman
Horton
Bouwmeester
Nagy
Chelios
Ricci
McLaren
and possibly others. this is kind of disturbing. if this keeps up we'll have a "make a team with players injured by the Canucks" thread and it'll be a pretty damn good roster.
McLaren's like Ricci. If he's not coming back for the rest of the game, you can bet it's more than just a forehead laceration. If it was, he would've had the trainer stitch him up and he'd be back on the ice battling with Bertuzzi. I'm thinking possible concussion. After all, it WAS a Sami Salo shot...
