You mean 58 points huh? 17-41=58 ...cause for scoring 85 points he will need someone like mario LEmioux around him, and in montreal, unfortunatly, the only thing close to him is.....hmm....ehhh......wait...theyre should be someone.....hmm....heee.....that punk ribeiro?..... na....wait....hmmmm.....oh yeah....we will get briere right??????

FACT NO.1:Kovalev play one game out of 4.
FACT NO.2: We dont have a mario lemieux type of player to push him a bit.
FACT NO.3:We have carbonnean as head coach.... , and he might wish we get a player like "jesus" to get on the same line as kovy!!!
FACT NO.4:Briere will resign with Buffalo.
FACT NO.5:The only surpe4rstar we will land, is, mark my word, ...BILL Guerin!!!And he is nothing close to mario lemieux.
FACT NO.6:kOVALEV isnt as great as we tought. He's your great 60 points scorer, who have the potencial to get 100 per season, but because he is a selfish player, will never get close to that again.....ever.

Stop dreaming please....85 points...You will get that from Higgins, in about 2 years.Kovalev need someone to push him, and he cant follow ....even with a guy like Koivu in your team......Kovalev is just another Malakhov....plenty of talent...but no heart!

Kovalev hasn't had over 80 since 2000-2001. Its possible if he decides to put himself to proper use for a year, but it isn't very likely at all.
I'd be looking at another streaky 60 point season.

I would certainly settle for any amount of points from Kovalev if he actually played 3 games out of 4 instead of 1 in 5...

He's a freakin' veteran: he must realise that he has to set an example for the rookies: and by that i dont mean an example of slacking off most of the time and then blaming his teammates and his team.

MAN! I sure hope we get rid of this guy!!

Let me illustrate how i perceive Kovalev and his bad influence by a personal experience of mine if you will:

I coach a lot in different sports: one year i had a star kid on my soccer team: lead the league in goals that year but was very selfish and always criticising... bad for the team. We went to the finals but we lost..

Next year i coach the same team with some new players also. My 'star player' was there and started *****ing right at the start of the season. So i picked up a no soccer talent guy who was always doing quick laps at the pool i was training at. He wasnt that good but he was SO much in shape! All the team was in awe.. and they tried to keep up with him.

So my star player tells me he should play more if we want to win, so i tell him he's right: i then traded him to the basement team where he had all the time he wanted! Even lead the league again in goals scored.

But what did we do? We regrouped, played as a team and won the finals that year 5-0.!

I dumped my 'Kovalev' and we became a TEAM and not a supporting cast for a once great player that is on the way out anyway.

Play him with Lapierre Begin Plekanec and Samsonov and thats what you'll get.

Play him with Koivu or another smart playmaking center like Ribeiro and you get 65 in 69.

Coaches choice.

Interesting thing to note is Kovalev's totals as a Hab aren't bad at all.

154 games played, 115 pts.

17 playoff games, 17 pts.

Let him play with a good playmaker, he'll put up good numbers. That simple.

Dream on.

Kovalev will NEVER score 37 goals in an NHL season again. He's only put up that many points in a season ONCE, back in 2000-01 (44-51-95)—when was 28 and playing with a couple of guys named Jagr and Lemieux.

He will turn 35 next year and the trend is DOWN not UP. A line you can more reasonably expect from Kovalev is 14-25-39.

Oh for gods sake he DIDNT play with Jagr and Lemieux. Get this through your head EVERYONE!!!!! He played with Lang and Straka!!!!

And the next year when Jan Hrdina was on his line and no more Jagr, Lang and Lemieux played only 20 games he got 76 pts in 67 games which was on pace for 2nd in the league that year.

Also, nobody gives a damn about how many points he put up before. Koivu had never got more then 71 before this season and he got 75... 85 is not unreasonable for Kovalev. I think hes gonna have something to prove and is gonna shut everyone up.

It doesn't matter who he played with in 2000-2001, he's never going to put up 85 points in the NHL again.

His game is in decline. Believe me, Gainey is doing whatever he can to move Kovy and his albatross of a contract out of Montreal. Last season was pretty much a carbon copy of his final year in New York when they were happy to ship him to the Canadiens for Jozef Balej and a draft pick.

Personally, I like Kovalev and enjoy watching him play. But it's daft to think he's going to suddenly regain the level of productivity he had in his 20's.

ok there i dont think kovalev will put up 85 pts either but he wont just score 14 goals and he surely wont just have 25 assists with all his pp time....comon now not even makin 40 pts is a joke, he will probably have again around the 60 pts, i hope its more, but not less than 50pts

Put two guys who know what a puck is on Kovy's line and he should get ~1 PPG. They don't have to be superstars, just smart players.

In the perfect world, that would be the case. This however is far from a perfect world. Kovy is talented as hell but just as lazy and arrogant. He needs a swift kick in the ass so we can put a heart and soul type of player in there. Trade him on draft day Bob! and throw Sammy in as a bonus!

If they are smart, they won't pass him the puck. That means he won't get 1 PPG since he doesn't really pass the puck either. Kovalev is a turnover machine...

Here's my prediction: 16 goals and 36 assists (52 points).

Alex Kovalev

Alot of habs fans are really frustrated with him, and so am I...But seriously, let's give him another chance.

I was recently watching ESPN classic, and it was showing the Boston vs. Montreal playoff series (the most recent one) and I was in awe because Kovy absolutely DOMINATED. He was hustling, he was using the body, he was getting lots of shots on goal and was deking the crap out of people, and i couldnt believe my eyes because we did not see that this past season.

Is it Carbonneau who he isn't fond of playing for? what is wrong with him? we know he is probably one of the most talented players in the league but he was loafting around this past season...But seeing him play like that makes me say that we gotta give him another chance because if he can play like that again for us (and i have a feeling he can) then he will be one of the top scorers in the league if he can stay healthy for the season....

I also think for this upcoming season we should have him play the point on the powerplay.

What do you guys think?
