Can anyone tell me if the portrait of the Queen and the Stanley Cup Banners from Winnipeg Arena will be moved to the new Arena when it opens next year?

Am I the only one that is wondering, what Stanley Cup banners?

I sure hope the damn queen won't be there! As far as the banners go, I'm not familiar with them. Why would there be Stanley Cup Banners in Winnipeg?

I beleive the Winnipeg Victorias won the cup pre NHL.

God, I hope that picture of the Queen is retired.

There are also 3 Avco Cup banners from the WHA days.

Sorry for the confusion, folks.

You are right, hbk, the Victorias won the Cup a couple of times in the early 1900s. The Banners still hang in Winnipeg Arena, along with the giant portrait of the Queen.

The Queen isn't up at the Arena any longer. I have little reason to believe she'll be hung at the new barn.

As for the banners, I have no clue. I'll ask the next time Im in touch with Moose staff (I do some work for them from time to time).

The Queen has been donated to a museum in rural Manitoba (Souris I believe) and has been gone for a couple of years. Since the Stanley Cup banners won by the Victorias in the early 1900's are pretty significant to the city, I would expect them to be brought to the MTS Centre. However, with Mark Chipman's anti WHA stance I doubt the Avco Cup banners will make the trip.

Not sure about the retired Steen and Hull jerseys either...
