Retired Players Exhibition Tour?

If the NHL wants to promote the game in other countries how about doing an exhibition tour with retired players that are still capable of playing competitive hockey in a limited schedule? They could play a 10-15 game schedule against European league teams or national teams, sign a lot of autographs and bring a lot of goodwill. They could ice a very entertaining team for these kind of exhibitions. I don't think Gretzky, Bourque, Roy and Housely would have any problem getting in shape for 10-15 games. It's not possible that Larry Murphy has slowed up any. Messier would have something to do and maybe Mario would finally hang em up. I'm sure there's a lot of other fine players. They could be like the Harlem Globetrotters of the NHL

The Bruins Alumni team features retired players and they play games every year around New England to benefit youth hockey and various charities.

Decent idea. Doubt you'll get Roy to do it...but yeah, you could also add guys like Kurri and Larionov and drum up some interest that way.
