Petrovicky

He's a UFA and he was one of our better role players in the last decade. He does whatever you need him to do, forechecks, backchecks, plays a physical game and has loads of character.

Yeah, we already have Callahan (who will switch between the second and third lines), but I'd suggest Petrovicky for the 4th line. He is a 4th line player and has just enough skill to help Dawes (who I think should start on the 4th, just not with Hollweg or Orr).

I'll start by saying I love this guy. The guy would score like 5 goals a year, but every single one would be important. I remember a game I was at when the rangers were losing to Tampa 1-0 with 5 minutes to go and then he put in the game winner with 2 minutes to go on a wrist shot from the circle. Such a great guy to cheer for.

With that said, no thanks. Would I take him over Hollweg and Orr? Absolutely, but I don't think it's worth it.

Pass. If this team can't dig up a guy to do what Petrovicky does, they are in seriously bad shape.

no thanks, i liked him when he was here. but he is more skilled than Hollweg and that aint saying much. I feel Hollweg, Immonen will be part of a deal while Byers, Korpedo or Bourret play the 4th line next year.

???

His salary now is like .45... we could even give him a raise to .65.

For what tho? He's nothing more than a 5th liner at this point.

Byers has lost his edge in the pros (physicality-wise), Korpikoski is going to develop defensively first (like all Finns). MAYBE Bourret can do it, but then we're back to square one; two rookie wingers on the same line and one-man-army Betts in the middle. Do you re-sign Isbister? Or drop Avery to the 4th line (when he could manage 35-40 pts on the 3rd)?

My point is, we need a decent, mobile, bottom six guy with just enough skill to stimulate Dawes, not just a large body on skates or a junkyard dog, i.e, Isbister, Orr, Hollweg. OK. Where do we get a player who's a sure bet to do what Petrovicky does? Hartford has 0 bona fide NHL-ready wingers.

I know it's up in the air and it's 6/12, but it's just for fun (assuming Prucha is dealt at the draft to move up to top 5)...

Hossa-Nylander-Jagr
Straka-Drury-Shanahan
Avery-Cullen-Callahan
Dawes-Betts-???

Might as well just keep Ortmeyer if you want that type of player.

Not really... Ortmeyer isn't all that rugged.

I don't recall Petrovicky killing penalties.
You want someone to go out and hit people 5 minutes a night, might as well dress Orr or Hollweg. No need to import a free agent.

But let's take a shot at Michael Ryan?

Petro just had hip surgery last oct/nov.

One nasty check and he's asking Matlock to assist him with his walker

But....but....but....Ortmeyer isn't all that rugged.

He only goes out and sacrifices the body like a madman, on every shift.

That's not rugged enough

Please show me where I said that Ortmeyer wasn't rugged enough in this thread or for that matter said anything negative about Ortmeyer.

And in any case, that's really not Ortmeyer's game or job. Players who go around hitting people don't play a good positional game--Ortmeyer doesn't line opponents up for the big hit, he puts his body in front of them.

Who said you did? Not I.

You clearly misunderstood the tone and intention of my post. I wasn't implying you said that.

I'm guessing it's because you quoted him instead of the guy he was quoting.

OK, no problem. Next time you might consider quoting the person you are responding to.

It was an agreement response, which started with sarcasm......tounge-in-cheek.

Like him, but no thanks. I'd like to see Bourret, Byers, or Dupont do that.
