Your all-world, all-time greatest team featuring non rangers...

what would be your lineup (all 4 lines, both goalies, and 6 defenseman) for the ultimate team featuring guys who have never skated a single game as a ranger?

im gonna have to think on this one.....

Very nice. I was wondering about Gordie Howe, though.

I have my preferences. I was never a big Gordie Howe fan. I missed his really good years and saw him from the 63-64 season on. I'm not a big Mario fan. I only selected players I saw play.

Thanks Lou. If you look hard at my list I think every single one of them were outstanding from game 1 of their careers. While I admire players who turned their game around after they gained experience or were taken under the wing of an asute coach or assistant coach, I have a fondness for players who you could get it done from the 1st no matter the kind of team, style they played on. I think the sole except, though he was considered a real good player was the BIG M. The Leaf style kind of stiffled his game, went to Detroit when they were horrible and then established his legacy in Montreal.

Be it that Im "new" to hockey [read: 90's], Im unable to put the Richard's, Howe's and LaFleurs in this list.

So Ill just name guys I saw play, who I really liked:

Centers: Federov, Sakic, Forsberg, Brind`Amour

Wings: Selanne, Ovechkin, Brett Hull [never seen Bobby], Ciccarelli, Naslund, St Louis, Gaborik, Kovalchuk

D: Stevens, Pronger, Lidstrom, Chelios, Borque, Coffey

G: Roy, Hasek

I REALLY wanna put Bure on this list, since I liked him long before his Rangers days, and he played what, 30 games for us???

oh well.

I'd say that it's a shame no one considered some players like Kharlamov, Fetisov, Makarov, Tretiak or Larionov, since it's supposed to be an all-world team...

I'd say its a shame you didnt read everybody's posts before making an assumption.

Its a list of opinions... cant slam people for not wanting to include the russian squad.

Pavel Bure would have been on my list, but he was a Ranger, and a good one, for a VERY SHORT period of time.

Tretiak and Kharlamov I didn't see at all, and they didn't play in the NHL.

Makarov was ok in the NHL, and Fetisov was a servicable defenseman in his day.

Larionov carved out a great career, in and out of the NHL. Excellent player, his playmaking skills and all-around sense of the game were top-flight.

I thought I was going to get some flak for putting Ovechkin on my list... I just couldn't leave the guy out, he's one of the most exciting players I've ever seen. A rare combination, of skill, speed, size, and power.

If you should be mad about any Russian being left out, it's Fedorov. Fedorov in his day was one of the better all-around players of all time. Blazing fast, an excellent shot, excellent sense of the game. The only player to ever score 100 points and win the Selke Trophy in the same season twice (94, 96... Doug Gilmour is the only other player to accomplish this feat but only once in 93), also the only player to ever score 50 goals and win the Selke in the same season (94). The guy was money in the playoffs too.

Yeah I saw that, great player in his day.

His problem if you ask me was motivation. He had some tremendous seasons, and then in others, left you scratching your head asking "What happened to him?"

Kharlamov was one of the very best forwards ever, in the class of Gretzky, Lemieux etc.

If he doesn't get hurt, Crosby is a mortal lock to be on that team.
