Florida/Minnesota Trade Proposal...

To Minnesota:
10th Overall
Detroit's 2nd Rounder

To Florida:
Manny Fernandez
Roman Voloshenko
19th Overall

Minnesota needs to unload Fernandez's contract but GMs know Minnesota is in a bind in cap space with a bunch of RFAs up for contracts and they still need to upgrade their defense. I don't think Fernandez can move Minnesota up 9 spots, but Voloshenko is still a good prospect. He just had a sophomore slump on a bad team.

...Voloshenko dead? I don't think so.

I think this helps both teams a lot. I think maybe it'd be more like Fernandez + 1st for 1st though, as I don't see a reason why Minny would move Voloshenko.

Well, it's kind of like the San Jose/New Jersey trade. Minnesota would have to offer something a little more for Florida to move down and take on a big contract. They won't part with Pouliot, Irmen, Sheppard or Madsen and outside of those guys, they don't have much...Voloshenko is worth more than 9 spots...a low 2nd would be good.

White is a UFA. They could just sign him...

I'm a little confused, where did Florida get Pittsburgh's 2nd rounder? Cause if they did, they've got up to 4 picks in the 2nd round. It sure didn't involve the Gary Roberts or Kwiatkowski trades.

Roman Lyashenko is dead, not Roman Voloshenko.

Why would the Panthers give up on Weiss, Minny is going to be getting a lot less back to get rid of Manny's contract.

Weiss > Manny
White = 2nd
Florida 1st > Wild 1st

That trade doesn't work for the Panthers. I hate to say it, but the Wild have their hands tied because they HAVE to unload Manny's big salary. We're not giving up Weiss to take on an overpaid goalie, even considering the fact that we do need a goalie badly.

The original proposal actually isn't too bad at all to be honest. I think Florida wins the trade, but it isn't very far off like many others that have been offered lately.

Hmmm, I thought Pittsburgh traded their 2nd to Florida. Whatever the lowest 2nd rounder is for Florida...then.

Detroit's 2nd I guess then.

That's like giving away a top-15 goalie for free. No thanks from Minnesota.

Heck no! Weiss had been frustrating to watch...until this past season. If Weiss stays healthy, he'll be a big part of our team core moving forward. Why would the Panthers want to set their franchise back further???

only way i would trade for Manny is a salary dump for salary dump type trade, if i am looking for a goalie i play Ottawa against Minnesota see who would dump their's for cheaper.

Everyone knows Riseborough is bluffing on the "willing to keep both goalies" claims. Tying up $7 million in two goalies (one of which doesn't want to be there) is asinine. Dougie can try and hide the desperation all he wants but he's begging someone to take Manny off his hands. I do agree with his statement that he is in no rush to do so. He's probably better served waiting until training camp and seeing what teams are in need of a goalie at that point rather than selling him off now.

I agree 100%. The Wild are better off giving Manny away for free and using the cash to sign a UFA then they are keeping him. Someone on the Panthers board said that and I agree.

Uh, then what the hell does Minnesota do? Fernandez is questionable as a top 15...And I do question it, since Backstrom did so well and so did Roloson in Minnesota's system.

What does Risebrough do? Wait, if need be. If Fernandez would have played when the Gaborik was healthy, there wouldn't be any question as to his top-15 status. We would be talking about about top-10 instead. You don't give away assets like this for free. Roloson did well here because he's a great goaltender. If you have forgotten already, Roli's stats were better in Edmonton in 2006. So much for the "system" determining it all. I'm not on the trade bandwagon unless it's fair value.

But can Riser wait? We have three (or four) big names we have to sign back and they could command some money. Schultz, Bouchard, Harding, and Koivu.

We need to upgrade our defense (Foster and Skoula could leave) but is Belle and Stoner/Reitz a solution? And we need a second line center and maybe a checking center. We could save some money but our depth, especially at defense would be questionable.

Minnesota is in a bind to simply upgrade their team but at the same time, stay under the cap.

Martin is supposedly not interested in fernandez. I doubt we would give anything at all that much

specially not Weiss

Why would Marian Gaborik have anything to do with Fernandez's goaltending numbers? And certainly he wouldn't eclipse 5 goalies just having Gaborik play another 35 games.

You can't argue against the fact that his contract hurts his trade value even more than his mediocre numbers. The Wild just can't keep both goalies if they expect to return to the playoffs. That money needs to go elsewhere. And no one is going to pay too much unless they dump salary in return.
