why do you avoid Gilles? he demonstrates what this team needs, good skater and plays north-south as opposed to some of our others who play east-west. i say Gilles is a perfect fit!

because Hugh Jessiman comes to mind....

that's the problem ....people see "size" and think Jessiman. It's wrong to judge any player/person based on similar physical similarities. You will be wrong 100% of the time. Everybody is their own person.

it isn't only size. the kids a hard worker and is a north south type player....with skills i think will translate to 3rd-4th line duties.....we have enough players like that.

honestly, i would rather draft a goalie in the first round that Gilles

Gillies>Jessiman both now and when he was picked. Gillies has a complete package of skating and power. His problem is lack of touch around the net....which could be slow development like alot of bigger players, or he could be hands of stone and never develop a scorers touch....but the guy is a legitimate NHLer...you will see him pounding people for some team, even if he doesn't score a whole lot. I personally wouldn't mind taking a chance on him....but not at 17....if we keep that pick, I want somebody with decent offensive upside and proven scoring ability. Forget this crazy notion of another defender.....no more middle of the pack guys....defense only if it is a blue chip first pair guy.....and that isn't going to happen in this draft. Think offense this year, or trade down and take a chance on a guy like Gillies.

That was 5 minutes of floating on the ice. Questinable skating ability. He whirls around to change direction which to me is an indication that he can not do cross overs to his un natural side. Whoever posted that video of him must have it out for him. Based on that video I would think he would go undrafted.

Nick Petrecki-D 63 213lbs
Joakim Andersson-C 62 198lbs
Lars Eller-LW 62 198lbs
Zach Hamill-C 511 180lbs
Maxim Mayorov-LW 62 187lbs

I just have a feeling that we will go to Russia or Sweden with our 1st pick. Russia because I think most teams have still not invested the resources to scout their players the way they should. I think the odds of finding an offensive gem lie in europe in this draft for us. Having said that, if a player like Petrecki is still there at 17 I think we think long and hard even though he's a Dman.

Petrecki would be mighty hard to pass up if Eller is gone IMO. I'm thinking that both will be gone. In that case I'd go with Sutter. I really think he's going to be a solid contributor to his future NHL team.

I could walk away with Petrecki at 17 and be pretty happy.

with our 2ed round I can see us taking Tanguay. He is the younger brother of Alex on the Flames.

Based on Sather's history, we will probably trade out of the 2nd for a 3rd and a 4th. I hope not.

My list would go like this:

1) Backlund
2) Eller
3) Petrecki
4) Gillies
5) Mayorov

I think out of this list though only Gillies or Mayorov has a chance of falling to us unless we trade up. And I am not too excited with either. I'd trade down if possible for extra 2nd/3rd round picks.
