Timmins seems to like the approach in drafting good complete hockey players instead of drafting to make a spectacular show....go figure.....

I would just hope we could go back in 2003 and have a Timmins with the same kind of mentality.....

My only concerns about those 2 picks is just that it again smells "Projects" that we will see in 4 yours. But then we have on tape Timmins who says that he expects to see McDonagh playing with us in the near future....You need to be pretty great at scouting to know that a high school player will develop the way that you'll be able to see him before the average time for a guy playing in this level.

You mean a timmins without a Savard making the picks?

Please don't even go there. Savard drafted most of the best young players on our roster right now.

Dang we draft a Guerin-Tkachuk-Cole style player and people are complaining? We draft a Chelios-style and people are complaining? What else do you want? Sidney Crosby? I mean we all want exceptional players, but lets be realist here, they dont grow on threes.

Angelo will be good in Pittsburgh, its a good fit with them, not with us, now if I'm thinking of talents like Stamkos or Tavares if we can swing big to grab em thats another story, but at least we will have the assets to do so by drafting guys like Mcdonagh and Patches.

The difference between Timmins and Savard thus far is in later rounds in the drafts. It's all I'm saying. Savard was a good first rounds draft guy. But imo Timmins is better past round 2.

Sadly, and even though expected, that was the case with most french journalists I've heard or read so far, including the incompetent bunch covering the draft on RDS. This is sickening, it is to the point where no objective thinking is any longer necessary. We don't draft the local kid, therefore we messed up. And this is most of the time coming from the guys who don't have the slightliest clue of who those "other guys" are. Freaking pathetic. What a bunch of amateurs. The hiring standards for some media outlets has really gone down the drain. How come TSN has a pannel of competent hockey insiders, able to speak about most of the guys selected in the first round, and the sister french broadcasting network's guys don't know a god darn thing about anybody not named Esposito / Perron / Veilleux / etc? I mean how serious does this look? I. AM. PISSED.

That's fine, just so long as people don't start hopping on this 'Timmins would have picked Getzlaf' bandwagon as if he's the be-all and end-all of drafting.

It's humorous that people identifying safe picks with Getzlaf and risky ones with Kostitsyn. Every draft year is different, and there's a hell of a lot more work than lumping forwards into two categories named 'safe' and 'high-risk high-reward'.

That said, there's no doubt in my mind Savard would have drafted Cherepanov. He might have passed on Espo though.

did I miss something? why does nhl.com show our 4th round pick (#103) belonging to TOR? Is that the pick we gave up for getting Mike Johnson?

Funny if you look up some old threads from 2003, a lot of people were vehemently against drafting Getzlaf....

Two fifth rounders though.. And by the looks of things, some good players still available..

Kokkala and Karamnov are the only offensive juggernaut centers left though.

Well, Ryan McDonaugh is a solid pick. However, i am not a big fan of Max Pacioretty. I know how good he is and he plays a gritty power forward style, but I still wanted David Perron for this pick. Yes he's french, but he also has magic hands and a great determination to never give up.. time will tell...

I think they've had it up to their hairline dealing with Russians. Both on the ice and in terms of negotiations.

I wanted Pacioretty, and had Perron in my top three "players to not draft" list.

Munchausen, I am sooo agreeing with you. It seems that the french media gets too lazy sometimes and doesn't bother getting people that actually know what they are talking about. I am french and I would love to have Bob Mackenzie or Pierre McGuire types covering the draft with all kinds of inside information. Instead they go with Jacques Demers and Yvon Pedneault who know absolutely nothing about the prospects involved. Marc Lachapelle (journal de montreal) is probably the top expert in the quebec media when it comes to the draft and they rarely demand his opinion. If the people they talk to aren't french, then they don't bother trying to get out of the province and get real info. I have a lot respect for people like Lachapelle, Francois Gagnon, Mathias Brunet and to some extent Marc de Foy, but those voices are drowned by the Marc Bureau, Michel Bergeron, Jean Page, Jean Perron, Rejean Tremblay, Bertrand Raymond and most of the CKAC crew who only have one thing in mind: Anybody associated with the Canadiens should be Quebecois (no out of province francophones mind you, that's not the same thing to them).

Well McCrae and Erstadt gone I would now hope for:

Allard
Skokan
Malone
Torquato
Caputi
McCrae
Kidd
Valach
Rusnak

Anybody watching if our ex-Mikus will be picked???? And should we take a fly on the other Mikus???
