I think Anderson should be the backup. He played well in the few minutes last season and is much cheaper than Auld.

I mean, Anderson was the first goalie last year to beat Atlanta...and that was at the end of the season!

And that win was in a shootout, too.

I wouldn't have an issue with giving Anderson a shot. However, if anything can be salvaged of Auld, we could just write last season off to an aberration.

With Vokoun in net, I think either option could work.

I liked what I saw in Anderson last season and really like how he understands his role. I'd like for him to back up Vokoun.

Absolutely no need to bring Belfour back. Auld should be the back-up without a doubt.
hehe... never quoted myself before.

Now, from JM:

Quote:
“We’ll continue negotiations with Stephen Weiss and other players,” he said. “In July, we’ll start negotiations with Jay Bouwmeester. But this week will be preparing for free agency and preparing for some trades.”
Quote:
“We need to fill some forward positions and that’s what our focus will be,” Martin said. “We’re trying to fulfill different types of forward positions. Hopefully, we’ll get one (forward) with more grittiness, a physical presence, and at the same time keeping in mind speed is an element that we’d like to add to our team. Maybe we’ll try to get a more skilled forward as well.”
seems to correspond to what I said earlier

Nagy, White, Vic. Kozlov are the three I'd like to see the cats acquire.

I'd like White, Fedotenko, Asham, and Blake. Roster spots were freed up with Bertuzzi, Roberts, Nieuwyndyk, and possibly losing Gelinas and/or Stumpel which should allow for a few guys. We'll see, I doubt we get all those guys, but it'd be nice.

Laus, I love your list. Blake is just wishful thinking though. We won't get players matching those combined salaries since we already got Vokoun and we have to factor the raises on our youngsters.

Here is my wishlist:

Re-sign Stumpel (if reasonable price)

One of: Ladislav Nagy, Slava Kozlov

One of: Ruslan Fedotenko, Kyle Calder

One of: Todd White, Martin Gelinas, Arron Asham, Eric Belanger

Nagy-Jokinen-Peltonen
Calder-Weiss-Horton
Gelinas/White-Stumpel-Olesz
Booth-Campbell-Kolnik

Guys, forget about Slava Kozlov. He will get something like 4-5 mil/year IMO and we can't afford that for one player now that we have Vokoun. I think the most likely scenario is Sykora, White, and a guy like Fedotenko/Calder. I'd like Perreault instead of White, though. For a backup I'd like to see someone more experienced brought in, like Aebischer.
