This draft improved org weaknesses

According to HF organization rankings.

Quote:
Weaknesses: Although the organization contains a plethora of potential second, third and fourth line forwards, outside of the newly-acquired Bourret, the Rangers' organization is short on young forwards that have first line potential. The Rangers also only have one goaltending prospect among their top 20 prospects.

Yeah, but, why did they take a goalie? They could have got him in the 5th round, especially with so many surefire top six forwards left at #48.

The rangers felt there were only role type forwards left. Only time will tell who is correct. The rangers have been excellent in finding players through the draft lately so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I was loving Hoeffel but the Devils took him after we picked. The Devils usually do pick some of my favs...eg Paul Martin...

I'm guessing our first 2 picks solidify us as a top 5 now.

One thing I really liked is that we stocked up on risky guys with high upside in the later rounds, particularly Skokan and Campbell.

I feel that you should almost always be looking for guys who fit that description in rounds 4 and later, but it was especially important this year, because we are SO set with safe, but offensively limited 3rd liners.

I know...that's the criticism I'm seeing over the Rangers taking LaFleur.

Seems to me the Lafleur pick would have been done with the approval of Benoit Allaire. Hard to argue with the fact that the organization lacked goaltending depth. Thought it was an appropriate pick to make under the circumstances.

Sure fire prospects?Sather wanted to trade all of the day 2 picks for a late #1.TSN showed Sather talking to another person on the draft floor(not associated with the Rangers)and on the phone after the Rangers selected Alexei Cherepanov. Not being a lip reader,he seemed to rattling off the remaining picks in attempt to move up

The Rangers didn't even take Oscar Moller at #48 and he plays for Sather's WHL team in Chilliwack
