WFAN top 20 moments

Not sure if this has been posted, apologies if it has...Mike and the Maddog's program yesterday was a countdown of the best sports moments since the networks inception since 1987, as voted for by the fans. The Rangers, by what Mike stressed as a 'large margin' was named number 1. Matteau's goal was number 6. Keenan was interviewed for the number one moment.

I'm asking everyone to PLEASE not turn this thread into another M&M/WFAN hatefest. Those compelled to bash the dynamic duo can do so here

It was an interesting spot with Keenan. As he said he felt it was a huge mistake to leave, and thinks they could have won another cup. It was really nice to see how special that cup was to NY as well, to still be voted number 1. I really thought that a Yankee moment was going to win, so I was thrilled to see the Blueshirts be New Yorks favorite sports moment in the last 20 years.

More interesting was one of the first callers, who I thought may have been from here, that pleaded with them to cover hockey more. Said something like, "Hey the Ranger were voted #1, so New York are willing to embrace hockey." To which both M&M said yea but that team was special and went on to tell how they were so wrapped up in the Rangers that year. It got me thinking as to why these guys aren't so interested about the team now and the answer is, they nolonger have access. M&M interviewed Iron Mike and also Neil Smith and were bubbling about how much they loved those times and blah blah blah. This is were MSG has made mistakes in marketing there teams because whether you like it or not these two guy have juice when it come to getting the mases excited about a given sports. Neil Smith knew this Sather does not IMO.

Damn, I wish I could have heard this. I'm pretty schoked that a NYR moment was first with all the championships the Yanks won, but when you end a 54-year curse, it's a pretty special moment.

It's just the media personalities that make people believe the Rangers aren't a big deal in New York. Vote after vote proves that the Rangers are infact, a big deal in NY.

I'm sure if the sports talk personalities had a vote on this, the Yankees 96' championship or something like that would have won. But the fans have once again spoken. It's time for the sports talk show hosts to stop kicking hockey around like no one cares about it.

Nice to see the Rangers get some votes, but overall I think it's a pretty bad list. Piazza's 9/11 home run is on there (pretty high) but the Brosius and Tino homers later that season in the world series aren't?

As a Yankees fan, I completely disagree with this sentiment.

I'm not surprised the Rangers won. As great as the 1996 world series was, it wasn't nearly the same feeling in this city as when the Rangers ended the 54-year stretch. It was just a totally different feeling from any team I have ever seen win around here.

I just think it's interesting to note that while the Rangers have 3 moments in there, the Knicks are nowhere to be found.

Why, they were a lot more dramatic and meaningful than Piazza.

Very good choice of selecting the Rangers stanley cup win in '94 as the #1 moment.

Flew into New York after midnight and had a chance to hear review of Top 20 moments. Not hard to get choked up. afterwards, I called Steve Somers for the first time since the night the Rangers won the Cup. That night I told him what it meant to me and what it would have meant to my Dad. I wore my Dad's medals to that game and it's the last time I've worn them. It was a very touching moment for me and Steve as always was very gracious. There's never been a sport moment, New York or otherwise, like 1994.
