The more I think about it, the more I think Bertuzzi is a likely candidate. Big body replaces Hartnell, could return to form, could get the insurance check, could sign a 1 year deal, many teams won't want him or won't overpay....etc....etc...

and our first pickup.. is jed ortmeyer from the rangers.. a 29 year old 6 foot, 197 winger with little scoring ability ever shown (24 points in 177 career games, 2 goals, 9 assists last year in 41 games).. spend some time in the minors last year

I have seen a lot of rangers games in the past couple of years, and he is ALL HEART. If we're not going to make big signings, this is the type I'd like to be making.

On the third line though, across from Smithson or Fiddler? Lets hope we see something else happen in the next few days.

Not really excited at all with this signing. I wasn't expecting us go to grab a Briere or Drury today, but Ortmeyer.. ugh. Not really much of an upgrade really.

So it looks like we're set with:

Sullivan - Arnott - Dumont
Radulov - Legwand - Erat
Ortmeyer - Nichol - Fiddler
Hordichuk - Smithson - Tootoo

Weber - Hamhuis
Suter - Zidlicky
Zanon - Klein

Mason
Rinne

I wonder how Poile is going to find a way to spend up to the salary floor. What is the penalty for not making the floor?

Not spending to the floor causes forfeiture... the league will NOT let a team play if they are under the floor. <-- as heard on XM 204 last week.

Good. I hope the Vokoun trade comes to bite Poile in the butt.

I say that of course until we sign Fiddler for about $6 million a year...

Or we'll end up absorbing other peoples' problems.... Kubina, Jovanovski, etc <-- players with huge contracts that teams no longer want

THE VOKOUN TRADE WAS NOT A POILE MOVE ... IT WAS A LEIPOLD MOVE

Leipold told him to trim salary. Poile is the one who chose to trim Vokoun. Zidlicky + someone else could have been traded as well.

Furthermore, Leipold told him to trim salary, yet Poile can't trim it past a certain point, which now we're going to have to take on salary to fill.

Thanks for the caps though.

who else would we have had to add in that Zidlicky trade that you would have proposed ? ... Klein? ... Franson? ... Hornqvist? ... because Zidlicky sure as **** has great trade value at this point in time, doesn't he!?!?!?!?

No doubt Zidlicky's trade value is low right now, but I'm sure a team would be willing to take a shot at him.

As for the other person, you could go down our list and find someone who makes the difference between Vokoun and Zidlicky's contract.

Furthermore, Leipold is likely to only own the team for this year, so I don't see why years would factor into it.

Leipold simply told Poile to trim payroll. Its funny though, because now we have to spend to a certain point to make up for losing Vokoun.

Is Fedotenko still available? He could make a reasonable 3rd liner who can chip in 15 goals. He would be cheap as well.
