i think he is at 1 mill a year

is the offer good enough?

maybe....my guess is another year in the ahl, and he will be ready for the big show without a doubt. this year he can go either way really

Frolov is really intriguing, but I dont know if that's enough for Montoya in the eyes of Rangers management. I think if Montoya is moved in the near future, the Rangers need to see a real good dman.

Personally, whether there is a dman or not in that deal, if Frolov is offered for Montoya, I'd take that in a minute.

Bingo. Montoya & Malik for Dan Boyle & prospect looks to be about the only possible deal.. a team that needs a goalie, and has a good puck moving dman we could use.

That's what I'm saying. I don't see the Rags taking another forward immediately over a dman, when they could up Montoya's value by allowing him to play some in the NHL, and wait it out a bit to get something they will need at a later time.

I would love to trade for Frolov. Can you imagine our future (in no particular order)

LW- Frolov, Prucha, Hossa, Dawes, Korpikoski
C- Drury, Gomez, Dubinsky, Anisimov
RW- Avery, Callahan, Bourret, Cherepanov

I think we have enough talent to fill the top 3 lines.

There is a reasonable chance that Montoya will play in 10-20 Ranger games this year and be traded at the deadline. The hope would be - whoever we get for him would be the last piece of the puzzle. Unfortunately, prices are VERY high at the deadline.

Fortunately, we'll be close to the cap all year- and wont be able to take on much salary even at the deadline. So perhaps that will force us to either trade for another young and cheap player, or to wait even more to trade him. Or we'll just trade salary away with Montoya. Perhaps Mara & Monty for a defenseman making ~$4 mil.

But I don't see that happening until next March. I hope that he plays great on the Rangers - driving up his value.

Rangers don't have anything close to resembling the cap space needed to obtain Frolov. Montoya costs the rangers cap space $0 as it stands now, so obtaining Frolov would be optaining 100% cap space increase from his salary.

I would take Frolov in 1 second if it was straight up. We are in desperate need of a top pairing D-man right now though. And Malik HAS to go. Although he's not the worst, I've just about seen enough from him

Why does everyone hate Malik? I think he's been respectable, and like any player has had rough patches. I like him, don't NEED to see him go, but wouldn't mind it if it was in a Montoya package for a stud dman. Montoya will play NHL this year a bit, but will not be dealt. I think the Rangers will hold off instead off decreasing his value at the trade deadline.

I'd like to see Montoya play this whole year as a backup then possibly traded for a top 3 pick in next years VERY DEEP draft.

KYLE BEACH !!!!

Because we need someone intimidating and he is just about the complete opposite of that. He doesn't hit, is slow, and seemingly doesn't give a crap during important times. I realize he's quite effective at times, but I'm just never ever sure about any type of lead with him out there. Oh yeh, and how many times did Lundqvist bail him out this season? If it was anyone else out there between the pipes Malik probably would have been gone by now

With the cap situation, I would be very suprised to see the Rangers make any more moves except for resigning their own.
Now Frolov is certainly enticing. I've been racking my brains to think of who Cherepanov reminds me of amongst Russian forwards, and have come to the conclusion that Frolov is the one. Look at his yearly arc of stats and improvement: this is what I'd love to see from Cherepanov.
Why would LA trade him, even for such an excellent prospect as Montoya?
But again, I expect Montoya and Valiquette to share the backup position next year, rotating to Hartford to stay in game condition with Montoya getting the chance to play regularly if Lundqvist gets hurt.

That's who I love in the '08 draft right now myself.

Having said that, I just can't see anyone offering a big package for Montoya until he at least makes it to the NHL.

Unless someone really wants to pull off a rare move.
