So true! It's not like we just signed someone like Samsonov to take a top 6 spot from Kostitsyn.

Kotsopoulous definitely looks like an upgrade over Murray. We need grit.

From TSN:

Assets: Likes to play a North-South game and is strong along the wall. Defensively responsible, he's also a potential captain down the line.
We're going to groom him to be Koivu's replacement

I dont say he'll be a great player, but you never have enough heart and soul player. Tsn says he's a potencial captain down the line. He wont be at least in Montreal, but if he brings some good attitude and leadership it'll be good.

We'll see at training camp what he can do. A bit surprised, but thats not a bad sign.

My thoughts exactly. He'll likely spend some time in the press box, but with injuries and slumps, I think he'll end up playing in more games than he misses.

Love the signing, he's a good grinder, defensively responsible, all heart and has some good leadership. I like him better then Johnson and he's got some decent hands for a fourth line guy.

Good move by Gainey... he's a good fit for the fourth line...

Garth Murray will not start de season in Montreal, he will play in Hamilton...

Last year MTL put him on waiver so they will surely do the same thing...

D'oh, didn't think of it like that. Just figured it'd be hard for the announcers to comment on the play.

upgrade over downey, means murray is pretty much done with the habs, also set up move likely involving the departure of milroy

milroy+dandy vs eminger

Gainey will keep signing fourth line players until he can say to the fans "See we don't have any cap room left so we can't trade for superstar at 6-7 millions per season"...

What a stupid move. Ferland showed last year that he is improving. He's gritty and solid along the boards and had good playoffs for the Bulldogs...

good signing...Habs need more north-south type of players, although I think a guy like Ferland can do the job just as well IMO.

But Kostopoulos is a great skater, he's responsible defensively and can drop the gloves from time to time.

Good depth move

Look at the line-up. I was precisely saying yesterday the roster wasn't complete, precisely when you look at the fourth line. You can't rely only on Hamilton to fill those spots.

I think he is however a replacement to Samsonov. Look at the numbers.

Ferland is a slow skater with bad foot speed. I'd be pleseantly surprised if he made the NHL as a regular.

People want a grinder and now we have it.........Lahti will have a lot of competition

Kosto cannot be worst than Murray or Downey.......

Streit will not play Forward this year....

I think his lack of foot speed is exagerrated, he's going to end up in another organization IMO, he'll be given a chance to play his game and he'll turn into a pretty good checker IMO. He's very physical with decent hands, not unlike a Travis Moen type of player.

Either, my point always was that the Habs needed more grit and north-south type of players on their 3rd and 4th line, and that's exactly what Tom K. brings to the table...good move + he can drop the gloves

Yeah well I still think that a young player could have done the job...BUT, if a regular is injured, the depht is less good for sure...it might not be that bad after all...

He shouldn't either...the Habs are setting themselves up pretty good to have some internal competition on defense, on offense and in goal...

That's always good, it's the exact recipe teams like the New England Patriots use (I know, it's NFL, but the logic still applies). You have to create internal competition so that when players leave, you have cheap talent to replace them.
