Below is an article from a Dallas paper. my idea is to get boucher who makes 2.5M this year and next and is 33 years old. he is good for about 72 games every year. could help our pp. we would have to give up a scoring winger.
Not sure we could fit him in but if we had to get another vet d-man (don't think we really have to) who would help on the pwp--much better choice than Souray.
Prucha would get it done for sure but that will not be very popular. I would like to keep him as much as everyone else but we need an experienced D who does not make lots of money and who is good on the pp. Maybe a deal around Dawes, but it would not be nearly enough, picks and other prospects would need to be included.

Another option is a possible trade of a defenseman. Dallas has a surplus of blueliners and could use that to acquire a goal-scoring forward.
"We're obviously going to study every option," Armstrong said. "That's what we have done from the beginning"
Nice idea. I like his game. Great shot from the point, and people have a tendency to overlook his ability to play the body. He plays hard . Cullen for Boucher. You could start there and see if Glenn could get a draft pick thrown in there.

The Stars would have to take a contract back, presumably Malik or Mara. So they're right back where they were.
I believe Dallas is looking for a forward, most likey a wing but if we could get Boucher for Mara then it would make totally sense. Mara makes 3mil this season which could be more expensive than Boucher. (We can use all the cash possible for resigning our RFA's) Even if he is given a similar deal with identical money I would do it. This would give Staal a veteran partner to play with also someone very good on the PP (alot cheaper than Souray and better in our own end). He plays the body, has a good shot from the point and enough speed to make up for any of Staals "rookie mistakes"

If Mara makes 3M this season, how does it make sense to take back an older guy who has two years left at 2.5M?
He is 33 though, id rather have someone a bit younger.
I notice you say this about just about every player over 30. There is nothing wrong with signing a 33 year old player to a short term deal. We have plenty of youth on defense, and it could be good to add some veteran leadership.
Boucher is not available. He is just one guy that I would target. Dallas does not need D back, they need a winger. Read the article!!!! Again, i do not want to give up Prucha, but that should get it done. we would get a good, experienced D for our PP, at 2.5M!!!!! But i have a feeling that signed D with under 3M cap hit will command a high price on the trade market.

OK, so who are you giving up to get him? If not Prucha, then who?
Cullen should not be moved at all right now. His playoff experience and speed make that 3rd line very dangerous. Avery needs to stay on the wing to play his game and Cullen needs to stay as 3rd line center.
Dawes?
If we're shooting for a cup, there will be some youth casualties, either now or at the deadline.
But the rangers have to deal a similar size salary back to the Stars in order to do so. That being most likely a D-man from the Rangers, in which the Stars dont need anymore of.
