Kane and Turris "impress" at their camps

Anyone heard anything about JVR? I love this scouting staff, but I am having a hard time shaking this Turris thing (though I know, it is senseless to worry now: JVR will be a bust or decent).

Just for the record, our camp started today, the on-ice drills, and JVR is in the second group who will practise this afternoon for the first time.

I just got back from the second practice a few minutes ago...vanRiemsdyk looked pretty good, he had a real nice topshelf goal in one of the drills. He's also a lot fast than I had thought. Other than that they didn't really do anything that difficult which would demonstrate how much better someone is than anyone else, just real basic drills.

who cares if turris and kane impress? JVR can still beat them up and steal their lunch money.

here's hoping JVR surprises us all.

It was just drills, but i'd say JVR impressed as well.

Any flyers fans worrying about JVR's speed, i really wouldn't worry. He was plenty quick, and while he doesn't have the greatest top-end, he's pretty agile and has good acceleration. He was easily in the top third of our prospects skating wise, and we actually have a pretty good skating prospect group. He also has a really, really good shot that he likes to use from all angles and positions on the ice.

You guys, as you said, do not have to worry about his speed. He's very, very mobile for a big man.

His shot is already NHL level and he can score from most of the offensive zone. His release is Shanahan-esque, IMO. Obviously nowhere near where Shanny is, but he has shades of Shanny in him with the way he can get the puck off his stick as quick as he does.

He's also one of the smartest prospects out there in terms of on ice hockey sense.

Thanks for the input. I take it you have seen him play before, if so, how much have you seen of him?

The first days of camp are all basic stuff, as one observer mentioned there really isn't much impressing, its not like Kane is deking through the Blackhawks D and roofing one over Khabibulin.....

Kane

I thought even if Kane went through the blackhawks d and the bulin wall it wouldn't be impressive i mean comeon it's the blackhawks , he's prolly better then some of the players that are actually going to make the team.

hes probably the most talented forward at Blackhawk camp. If i'm the Hawks I throw him right out there with Toews and Havlat, and let that whole line spend the year geling, so that in 08-09 they already have an excellent #1 line.

They're the top picks in the draft, they better be impressing, it would be a disappointment otherwise.

The only thing prospect camps are used for is to work on drills, meet with the team, and get used to the coaches. Nothing else.

If he starts playing now, he can pull a Hartnell. HeŽll be 25 and already away from the team that drafted him......

ItŽll take a lot more than gelling for the Hawks to succeed. Perhaps a miracle or 48 first round draft picks like the Penguins......

no actually kane could be a blackhawk for a long long time.

its our gain that we got hartnell from a team that was generous enough to fast track our rebuilding. think of the preds as a warren buffet type of person donating to a charity trying to raise billions of dollars.

The Blackhawks keep stats during mini-camps? What are you talking about?

As much as I hate to help Flyers fans, I go to UNH, so I'll try to keep you guys updated on his progress. I hope he makes an immediate impact.

Thank you. Now don't be tripping him in the hallways or pushing him down the stairs, ya hear?

I'm already waiting for the day when BU-UNH hockey tickets go on sale, going to try to get to every UNH game at Agganis, maybe I'll bring a sign too.

my best bet will probably be watching the games on NESN or the public access channel which sometimes has games. UNH games are a tough ticket.
Probably will have to wait for the annual UNH/Dartmouth game at the VWA in Manchester.
