All right, it's summer and this place is a ghost town. So here's something to think about. WHo is the worst NHL regular of all time? Take into account games played, points per game, and PIM per game. I'm looking for the ultimate hanger on, the guy who wasnt a fighter, wasn't a defensive defenseman, or PK forward, or a tough guy. Just a dude who showed up and went through the motions without doing much of anything, but fooled enough people that he got to play. If you want, we can have worst Ranger/Non Ranger, but you have to provide statistical evidence towards your case, it can't just be your least favorite player.
Matt Johnson should in the words of little Jimmy Norton sit on a dirty needle.
Mark Osbourne i always hated
MicK Vukota sp? TOTAL waste of a player and nasty. One night at a Rangers rookie game he fights Jim Latos of the Rangers and gets hammered. He is skating to the box and I scream Mic your father was a Gerble real mature on my part but i was 17. He throws a water bottle at me. The very next night in NJ he is skating in warm ups and sees me and spits the biggest wade of spit right at me over the glass I move to the side and it nails the lady usher right on the check. Totally the funniest thing I ever saw live
It's so hard because I don't think there are many guys who played over a long period of time that didn't bring something to the table at some point.
It's easy to find flash in the pans, but here's some guys I never really dug nonetheless:
Jeff Toms Per Djoos
and I thought Bruce Driver was just about useless as a Ranger.
Per was one of my favorite Rangers growing up simply because of the way he pronounced his name.
Lots of wonderful Ranger names here...I'd nominate Quintal..he actually made Poti look like a norris winner. Dallas Eakins was pretty horrific. Brent Fedyk was awful by the time he came here and of course Michal Grosek.
Around the league...let us never forget: Roman and Jan Vopat
LOL Its tough. Guys that have played a ton of games in the NHL really have to have something going for them one way or the other in order to keep their jobs.
I can tell you who some of the worst Rangers have been in regards to lack of production. Val Kamensky is numero uno. Between his contract, games played and his 'production' that was the worst bang for the buck...
In the just plain awful category we have to bring up Billy Tibbetts...lol how about David Oliver?....Christian Dube?...I'd say Jeff Toms but he actually had a hat trick for us once upon a time..which reminds me- can I get a whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Jeff Toms?
Nedved, Hatcher, Kamensky, Murphy, Marchment, and a few others listed were well above average players for a couple years in their careers.
Looks like alot of people are just hating on guys who played the twilight of their careers in their own city.
Marchment never played for the Rangers.
"Marchment has been suspended for deliberate attempts to injure other players numerous times throughout his playing career. He was suspended 13 times by the league in his first 12 NHL seasons and his hits were blamed for injuries suffered by Mike Modano, Joe Nieuwendyk, Greg Adams, Mike Gartner, Kevin Dineen, Peter Zezel, Pavel Bure, Paul Kariya, Wendel Clark and Martin Rucinsky. On February 3, 1995, while the Toronto Maple Leafs were visiting Marchment's Oilers, a hit by Marchment partially collapsed one of Gartner's lungs; the severely injured Gartner had to return to Toronto by train. GP, goals, assists, points, +/-, PIM.
Not bad for a 16th overall pick, huh?
Marchment's the worst.
