When does Jagr's contract run out and how much is left on it.

he gets paid 8 something, but Washington still covers a bunch. Not sure of the exact info.

He's only guaranteed next year @ 8.360, with a cap hit of 4.940. 08/09 is a player option at the same price, depending on how successful this season is, he might be back. I think if we win the cup, he retires to Europe, if we come close he comes back for 1 more try and maybe more.

He also has a clause in his contract that states if he wins any major award (Scoring, MVP, etc.) another year is automatically tacked on.

Are the Caps on the hook for half if the option year is picked up?

Definitelt tricky. My gut is if he decides to play another year or two, he will want at least 6 mil. Is he worth it at that age?

Isn't that what you all said when you spent 70 million in salary only to never see anything transpire? You think NYorkers would learn by now you can't buy the cup. But I guess I can't blame them for at least trying.. for the umpteenth time.

Well he's already won two Cups. But it would be great to see him win it in NY.

sadly, yes.

many in capdom do not want to see the jarg get an award, for that very reason.

IIRC, the option is a "player" option, in the sense he MUST win a major award in order for it to kick in.

no award, no option, meaning after this season he becomes a UFA.

on that subject, i read some reports sather was looking to deal him, this past feb, for the right price. obviously that didnt happen.

do you all feel there's a potential for him to be traded, this season, in order to help the cap situation, and get a decent return?

for example, look at what philly got for a broken down forsberg.

According to IB's site:

Quote:
Jagr has an option for 2008-09 that can be triggered by hitting certain achievements in 2007-08; the Rangers retain the right to exercise the option otherwise.
If the option is not exercised, Jagr will receive a payment of $760,000 that would count against the salary cap for 2008-09.

interesting.

jarg is the gift that keeps on giving. if he doesnt win an award, and mgmt doesnt exercise the option letting him walk as a ufa, he'll still hit the cap as dead money.

i wonder if that 760K hit's the rangers no matter what? say he's traded at the deadline, no reg season award thus no option, and he walks as a UFA. does that team then absorb the 760K hit?

I would assume the rangers get the cap hit.

I say he's absolutely worth it. We will have a ton of skill, and defenders will still have to pay attention to him...leaving room for others, or vice versa.

Jagr is one of those guys that is worth close to whatever he wants imo... And hopefully he'd be reasonable.
