Why would they take on all that salary and give a much cheaper contract back? If you're going to propose a trade....think it through so it fits financially....otherwise its hard to gauge.

While I consider Cullen to be better by a fair margin, Dallas is looking to shed forwards.

I liked what I saw from Lundqvist in the playoffs. But if the Rangers get him, where is there room? Maybe if Dallas would take Hollweg too, then Lundqvist could play on the fourth line with Betts and Orr. But he'd be playing out of position because I think he's a center.

I don't know if Dallas would even do this though. They have a lot of 3rd-line types like Halpern, Barnes, Miettinen, Ott, Winchester, etc and they have a lot of centers already. Plus I don't know if they can take on that cap hit of Cullen. They're looking more for top-line talent to play with Modano and whoever the second line center will be, I'm guessing Jokinen or Ribeiro? I dunno.

Well, Lundqvist just signed with Dallas so I don't think he's going anywhere..

the Rangers would do it, but probably not a great move by the stars.

Take away the money aspect, and it's a massive improvement for the Stars over Lundqvist. He's a solid player, but not up to Cullen's standards.

I would also do it. It relieves cap space, it would make Henrik happy and from what I remember from SEL, Joel is a solid player. He has quite a scoring touch, but has changed his game to a more defensive minded side. He also plays very physical over here.

stars are set with a good checking line center (Halpern) and need Lundqvist also to play on the wings....iirc Cullen has his little problems there.
And even if we scratch out those 2 million cap hit difference, i'd rather keep Lundqvist. I like Cullen, he's a great day, he's solid on the ice, but Lundqvist is only 25 and after a half season in Iowa and a half in Dallas he's still defensive and offensive upside.
personally i even like Lundqvist (as a player) more than a guy like Eriksson on the Stars' roster.

That's no reason to say it will never work. Come'on people, get on the Eric, Jordan, Marc, Jared Staal train. 2015 baby!

Done deal. The move gives 2.1M cap room for NYR. He is younger. He plays decent. A good 3rd center. Fit in well.

I actually think this could work. Dallas has cap space and is looking for a forward who can score and play the point on the power play. The poster who said that Dallas is trying to shed forwards is not correct. Bringing Lundqvist here would be very cool -- he's also proven to be a pretty decent young player.

Yeah, but I'm talking about now. Cullen is a pretty decent amount better than Joel is and Joel's UPSIDE, IMO is about that of Cullen's. Not quite a 2nd liner, but one of the best 3rd liners in the league.

For now, the Rangers are better off with Cullen as long as they can pay him and stay under the cap.

The Staal family is the only brother combo I would like to see on the Rangers plain and simple.
