I suspect that the Stars will do all they can to re-sign these guys just to avoid arbitration. In years past, I've always noticed Dallas has been able to avoid arbitration pretty well. We shall see.

Surprised Juicy didn't file. And surprised Miets filed. O well.

No kidding. I bet his agent would be able to wow some idiot arbitrator with the shootout goal numbers.

I know Ryder, scored $2.2M this year.. He's slightly better offensively, but far worse defensively.

Ryder is "far worse defensively" than Jussi Jokinen? Does Ryder take a seat on the ice or something?

Oh, really? I was always under the impression that Jokinen was a responsible defensive forward, maybe I'm wrong?

On the other hand, Ryder is pretty bad defensively though.

i'd say they're about the same defensively.
Offensively Ryder is right now the better one, because he's the better (goal-)scorer. Jokinen is a better playmaker and i'd also say he has still some offensive upside but i don't think he can show it as long as he gets thrown through all 4 lines every game

Finnish newspaper says that Stars have offered Jokinen 605,000$, guess its one year. I found the offer kinda weird, although this one is gonna be one-way deal he still made about 700,000$ per year last two years..

He made that in cap hit with rookie bonuses. His base salary was closer to $500,000.

And Jokinen struggled at times last year when he was being bounced around. His problem is the Stars abundance of centers - he's much better at center, but not better than any of the top three.

On defense he's not bad. He tends to play what I call "defense by enthusiasm" where he skates really hard but doesn't position himself very well. Part of the reason he gets a bad wrap is he's one of the Stars designated flyers (my term). The Stars have a somewhat set play where, in transition, they pass the puck to a guy cutting through the offensive neutral zone in hopes of a breakaway. The three Finns were all common targets at that last year, and at least on of them would fly the zone very early to try and set it up.

his 06-07 salary was $700,000, so the qualifing offer (i think it expired 40 minutes ago) was $735,000.

Nada. His salary was $550,000 last year. His QO is $605,000. His cap hit, however, was $700,000 last year.

They should give Jokinen a 3 year deal worth total $3.9 million, $1.3 million cap hit per year.
IMO, it's a good deal, because if he doesn't progress how they like they could easily trade him.
If he has a big year he's signed fairly cheap compared to what he could get if he has a 20 goal 40 assist season.

Walzy, he doesn't have a separate column for signing bonuses.

Jokinen was due to be paid a total of $700k including the signing bonus, which counts against the cap, but not when discussing QOs.

I doubt he made a mistake as he probably got the numbers straight from the Stars. Couple that with the Finnish article that confirms the amount (which means they haven't negotiated, just tendered the QO according to the Finnish paper), and it makes it doubly confirmed.

ah ok....i guess i see
so his 350k signing bonus was splitted like
05-06: 500k salary + 200k signing bonus
06-07: 550k salary + 150k signing bonus

sorry Kritter (but Ott still has to go )
