Heatley not even in the 90's? The only guy with back to back 50 goals seasons, c'mon. If St. Louis is a 94 Heatley has to be that or 95!

Players should be rated by their last season stats...

I mean their pts per game, +/-, faceoffs %, blocked shots, bodychecks, etc. (goal average, save % and # of wins for goalies)

If Crosby is the player with the best stats overall, he should get the highest rating (for exemple 96). And based on Crosby's stats, EA should adjust the rating of every other forwards. Same thing for defensemen (based on Lidstrom stats) and goalies (based on Luongo or Brodeur stats).

After have rated all players this way, EA would just have to check what teams overalls would look like, and then, just to make sure the teams overalls look like last year's standings, they might maybe make some little adjustements for the overall of some players who had a "carreer season" (a la Ray Whitney) or a desapointing year (a la Rick Nash).

IMO, we would have a much more realistic player (and teams) ratings this way, and even the trades would be more realistic.

Another interesting rating would be potential. EA always screws it up.. It would be nice for once if it was realistic. Exemple:

Potential between 95-99: Players goes up 12ov with a good season, 8ov with bad season
between 90-94: up10ov/6ov
between 85-89: 8/4
between 80-84: 6/2
between 75-79: 4/0
between 70-74: down 0/4
between 65-69: down 2/6

You get the point.. obviously vets would have lower potential so their ratings would go down, and potential would change every off season to fit with the players' age, etc..

Also, veterans who had VERY bad season would see their potential go up, but their ratings down.. that way if they have somewhat of a good season the following yeat the can get their good ratings back.. the opposite could also happen, exemple: Samsonov.

Here's the Habs young players that played last season in the NHL and their potential:

Andrei Kostitsyn (90)
Guillaume Latendresse (88)
Jaroslav Halak (87)
Chris Higgins (86)
Mikhail Grabovski (85)
Mike Komisarek (85)
Tomas Plekanec (84)
Josh Gorges (81)
Maxim Lapierre (79)
Duncan Milroy (78)

Whoa, Staal 92? He should be more like in the 82-84ish range.

And Malkin IMO should be in the high 80's, and Sabourin is too high, he should be in the low 70's.

I dont know quite enough about the rest of the team to comment, though why is Rita there? He went back to Finland awhile ago.

I wish the game would make Crosby a lvl 90.

THEN we'd be realistic, because everyone should be able to improve. Crosby's only going to get better and i think 95+ is too constricting. Players that are level 70 are good to great, and most teams best players will be lower level 80s. that would be the best game.

O, and the way the goalies play, Luongo should be a lvl 97 and Cloutier should be lvl88. Why? cuz it's too easy to score on a #1 goalie with an 83 overall. Yes, I'm saying bad goalies should be in the high 80s.

I kind of agree with this. If you make Crosby and LeCavalier around 90, than you'd have most of the good players in the 80's, and like you said, room for improvement.

As for goalies I think there should be a wider margin in between them. If Luongo is a 97, than Cloutier should be around 80. Goaliers should be better rated than skaters to make scoring a little harder.

So with NHL08 coming out in two months now, let's re-make this thread. A lot of teams have posted how they would rate their players, keep them coming.

Also, it would be nice if we could have a little player scouting report to help edit them the right way. I remember Jozef Balej was a hot prospect for the Habs and one of the AHL's top scorer he was in NHL05 I think and was rated as grinder and 60th overall.. just a quick exemple lol.

HABS:
Koivu (86) - great playmaker, not a very good shot, great skater, has some nice moves, is strong along the boards and is a leader.

Kovalev (83) - great wrist shots, great stickhandler, very strong along the boards, weak defensively, and skates only when he has the puck.

Higgins (83) - great defensively, skates very fast, has a great wrister shot, is good at pretty much everything else.

Ryder (82) - has one of the league's best wrister, hits and skates well but cant do anything else. He's the worst at making/receiving a pass and can't play defense, everytime he tries to stickhandles he loses the puck.. although sometimes he does pull out some great dekes.

Plekanec (80) - very fast, is very good defensively and creates a lot of scoring chances, is a good playmaker and has a nice shot along with some very nice moves, needs to get stronger.

Latendresse (75) - has one heck of a shot, is very strong and likes to hit, weak defensively and very slow. Has a lot of potential.

Kostitsyn (74) - is a great playmaker and posseses a very good wrister, has some nice moves, skates very well, is strong along the boards, needs to get better defensively and more involved in the play.

Lapierre (73) - skates very well, hits a lot, is very strong along the boards, likes to pss people off, is an okay playmaker, is very good defensively, has some offensive upside.

Begin (72) - skates well, hits everything that moves, is great defensively, but doesn't have any offensive abilities.

Grabovski (71) - is the team's fastest skater, can dangle at high speed almost as good as Kovalev, has a nice shot and is a good playmaker, really needs to get stronger as he's very weak and small, and needs to get better defensively.

Murray (68) - he's strong, is an okay skater, is okay defensively and likes to hit.. other than that he's not very good.

Others: Milroy, Ferland, Chipchura, Lahti, Locke.

Markov (88) - one of the league's top dmen, can log up around 28 minutes a night, is very smart, is great defensively, is an awesome playmaker and has a great shot, skates very well, his only weakness might be he's strenght for a dman he's kind of weak.

Komisarek (81) - rock-solid defensively, likes to hit, is very strong, skates well, doesn't have a very good shot and doesn't get involved offensively.

Streit (79) - skates well, is very smart, can play forward as well as defense, is strong for a small guy, has a great shot from the point, can set-up plays in the offensive zone, and is very good defensively.

Bouillon (76) - skates fast, is incredibly strong, had a bad season last year, is prone to defensive mistakes but raises his game when it counts (8 times a year against the Leafs LOL), has a sick wrist shot from the point that goes in almost every time.

Dandenault (76) - skates fast, doesnt play smart, can't shoot and has trouble passing the puck and he isnt very strong.

Gorges (73) - skates well, is okay defensively and offensively but is very weak defensively. Has some nice potential.

Others: Cote, Valentenko, O'Byrne, Rivers, Biron

Huet - around 87 overall
Halak - around 79
Price - around 76
Danis - around 72

Kostopoulos, Hamrlik, Smolinski.. ask other teams fans.

a little high but lemme take a stab at it

FORWARDS
Nash: 91
Vyborny: 86
Fedorov: 83
Modin: 82

Good job biscuit basket, although I think Nash is a little bit too high.

I forgot the AHL will be in the game this year, so it would really nice if you could basically put down all the guys that are playing for your farm team as well.

HABS:
Duncan Milroy (68) - pretty good all-around, has nice offensive upside.

Jonathan Ferland (67) - a little bit like Begin

Kyle Chipchura (67) - defensive minded shut-down type of C.. protects the puck well and has some offensive upside.

Corey Locke (66) - good playmaker and has incredible offensive instinct, needs to get faster, stronger and better defensively.

Sergei Kostitsyn (65) - amazing wrister and speed, good defensively and very strong. He's pretty much good at everything.

Matthew D'Agostini (64) - good two-way forward with offensive upside.

Francis Lemieux (62) - good offensive player who's responsible defensively.

Mathieu Aubin (60) - big protects the puck well and is a good playmaker

Cory Urquhart (60) - good playmaker but is very weak physically and cant play defense.

Ryan Russelll (59) - scorer out of Juniors.

Thomas Beauregard (59) - big time Q scorer.

Greg Stewart (56) - ECHL grinder.

Jimmy Bonneau (50) - ECHL enforcer.

Along with Janne Lahti, a pretty good player out of Finland but I don't know anything about him, would probably be rated around 67/68.

Pavel Valentenko (71) - Great all-around D that is very strong and is good at pretty much everything.

JP Cote (69) - Good defensive D that has seen some NHL action, pretty solid all-around.

Ryan O'Byrne (69) - Komisarek clone, is big strong skates well and is a rock defensively.

Jamie Rivers (68) - veteran

Mathieu Biron (68) - vet with a booming shot and amazing size.

Mathieu Carle (65) - big offensive D out of the Q is very big and has great offensive upside.

Andrew Archer (62) - defensive D

Jon Gleed (61) - All-around D out of college, could have a big year.

Marvin Degon (58) - Not sure about him, heard he was an offensive guy.

Hope some other posters follow so we can have a thread to turn on when we get NHL08 and want to edit EA's crappy ratings.

Former Habs:

Sheldon Souray, EDM (83) - Best power/accuracy on a slapshot I have ever seen in my life, great leader, very strong can play a mean game but is very weak defensively.

Radek Bonk, NSH (78) - Good defensive player, solid at everything will never cost you a goal and is a good playmaker, strong physically.

Mike Johnson, UFA (78) - Fast has some offensive skills, very solid in his own end and stong.

David Aebischer, UFA (75) - Doesnt have any technique and just plain sucks.

Janne Niinimaa, UFA (73) - Sucked at first but picked it up a bit later on in the season.

you guys do realize that ratings mean nothing right.....

a player with 100 intensity and 50 everything else is an 86.

so before you knock EA, know what you are talking about.
