More Oilers rumors from the Ottawa Sun

http://www.slam.ca/Slam040306/col_garrioch-sun.html

Couple of things here, unless the Blues have lots of young talented forwards in their system, I don't think they should turn away from making a deal with the Sens for Pronger.

I would want Emery, Racunkek and Havlat.

Secondly, some hints there that Edm's the team Muckler's waiting for fall by the wayside for his defenseman.

Funny how it's the East loading up this season. NJ's out on the prepihery with their Hrdina's and VKoz's and hoping that Stevens comes back. TB is standing pat because they are rolling. Bos made one huge splash and I don't think TO is done yet. I think if they are serious they go after De Vries. Ott got Bondra and will most likely get someone else.

The word is Edmonton GM Kevin Lowe might lower his asking price for Smith if the Oilers don't come out of their season-long funk this weekend.
It's unlikely that the Oil even have an "asking price" for Smith right now unless it includes a stud d-man coming back. It wouldn't make sense on the heels of a Nedved trade.

If Ott is talking about Smith I wonder what names they're throwing out there.

The Edmonton-Ottawa idea makes sense only if the Oilers are out of it, which seems unlikely by Tuesday.

Having said that, if Lowe decided to pull the plug then Jason Smith and Georges Laraque would make an extremely attractive package.

However, from all I've read Muckler has no plans to trade a roster player, so even a Rachunek plus pick return seems unlikely.

Can't wait until Tuesday.

If the Sens offer back Chara and a pick for Smith and Laraque I'd be all over that.

You could line up Oiler fans across Canada from Edmonton to Ottawa and we would carry Chara to edmonton if that is what it took...

But you're right the phrase untouchable doesn't even come close. Better chance to get Spezza Lecavalier and Heatly...

Smith + for Rachunek + ?

We have loads of strictly defensive dmen or at least can play that type of role with Cross/Ulanov... We don't really have anyone with Rachunek's offensive type of game.

How about Smith and Laraque for Rachunek and Vermette

Isbister ain't going to be traded. I don't even see the Oilers making a trade with the Sens. Isbister is on IR and the injury may be more serious than the team is willing to release. Why would the Oilers trade for Nedved and then trade Jason Smith. I don't think so.

I have no idea if Smith is going anywhere or not but I wouldn't rule out lateral trades. Remember, this is the GM that pulled the trigger last year on Niinniima and Carter at a time when we were in a very close race for a playoff spot and most commentators were predicting that we would fall out of the race as a result of the trade. The year before it was York for Poti and Murray so I would say Lowe has proved he is willing to make the big ones.
