1 yr at 1 million less would be the reason as opposed to being tied in for 3 more at 2.9, not to mention in a 3rd line role a healthy Peca may be a better fit for a team lacking sandpaper and one that is trying to make a run this year.

I think i'll have to say at this point that I want Peca.

They lose Cullen whos a decent Pker and faceoff guy with alot of speed and not so impressive defensive skills.

And would gain a 2 time Selke trphy winner whos a stud on the PK and in the faceoff circle.

I DO NOT feel comfortable having Dubinsky or another prospect come up and faceoff against Crosby on the road 4 times this season.

I'd rather see Peca facing off against him on purpose for 8 games.

why make this trade? i don't like it at all. i think cap maneuverability is not worth all this turnover and losing Cullen.

Its very possible....if you have the right centers.

Sure I would have preferred Cullen over Peca, but in reality Peca is still a veteran with great leadership skills. And maybe he can even chip in offensively, who knows.

But again look at what could be the 3 centers: Gomez-Drury-Peca down the middle. Two of which have won stanley cups. All 3 have great leadership qualities.

Sure I dont like that weve made so many moves but at least theyre good ones.

We are supposed to make a cup run with 3 new centers? I really doubt thats possible.
Gomez, Drury, Betts and Avery. This tells me there gonna keep the avery Callahan line intact. What has Cullen done for this team besides miss the net? He sucks if we get Peca then this team upgrades even more.

I'm more disappointed with the shake-up than actually losing Cullen though i do like him.

Im gonna wait and see what Slats does before I get upset about losing Cullen and a really strong middle.

Immonen is possibly the worst option of our avilable prospects for 3rd line center. if anything he is more of an offensive center but with not enough upside to bump Gomez or Drury. i expect him to moved eventually.

you act as if we have peca signed. this is NOT a good move right this minute. if Slats turns this into an upgrade somehow, then I'm all for it. right now though, our team is significantly worse and has an only marginal better salary cap situation.

The more I think about this trade the more I don't like it.

Losing our perfect 3rd line center, another shakeup, adding another defenseman to the mix..which probably means yet another trade is going to occur. Sather should have tried to dump Mara.

And as for HFD, how many centers do we have done there now?

This is not a surprise if you read Rutherford's quote in Saturday's Raliegh News & Observer.Cullen was the guy he wanted and picked $8.15 million of Cullen contract if you subtract $475,000 owed to Hutchinson this season

The Rangers need flexibilty and having a $3 million 3rd line center is too much

I don't remember Avery being bad at center. In fact, I remember him being pretty good for at least a little bit.

At any rate, I think some people need to calm down.

What, did you expect them to give up Andrew Ladd? A first rounder? It's a pretty decent return for a 3rd liner making too much money and the Rangers being in a position where other teams knew they wanted to move him

Well we weren't winning a cup with the roster as is. Still got the core here now just adding talent. But I agree there has to be another move in the works or we lose a little.

Slats better go out and make the Peca pickup today for approx. $1Mil./1Yr. I don't feel comfortable with Dubi or Ansimov playing on the 3rd line for a team that should compete for the Cup. I certainly don't feel comfortable playing Avery at center, as he is much more effective playing the wing.

In terms of penalty killers, we still have Avery, Hossa (both need to sign), Betts, Callahan, Drury and whoever takes that third line center spot, whether it be Peca, Dubinsky or anybody else, they need to be a penalty killer as well. This is not even including Shanny as I don't want him taking that icetime anymore. That is plenty, not only is it enough, but it looks like a pretty good penalty kill IMO.

I think Hutchinson may be a move to waive down to the AHL, so we are just dumping Cullen's salary and opening a spot for a kid Sather thinks is ready to step into the big club (I hope at least). But if not a one-year cheap contract for Peca looks pretty good IMO

Hands of Stone....just like Orts. Great heart, hustle but could not find the net.

+1

The way everyone's talking here, it looks like we just traded Staal... I guess we weren't all watching the same Cullen last year...

Couldn't agree more.

Good move, opens up a spot for either a young center or maybe even Peca whom I'd rather have than Cullen.
