Kovalev, why-

Kovalev has a slight advantage in terms of skill, but has a major advantage when it comes to size and strength, something we sorely lacked before he came here!

Ya actually your right, i just worded it wronng and got to lazy to make changes for a useless discussion (no offence to the guy who started this thread)

I don't think Satan would have been available for Balej and a 2nd rounder because he won't be a UFA. He would have cost the Habs more in prospects/choices. Gainey had to consider the cost to the Habs in lookinjg for a deal.

I think Kovalev is definitely the better choice. We needed that offensive smoothy .

At least Kovalev doesn't represent any upside-down crosses or anything

I'd take Satan. But I'm perfectly happy with Kovalev.

Same here...seeing the game tonight (Leafs vs. Sabrers) Satan showed why he is a great goal scorer.

Kovalev is awesome too though..so I'm kinda in the middle.

Kovalev Brings so much more to the table than Satan. His skating his better so as his shot. Also, he's btter at making plays for himself.

Kovalev for sure. He is the hardest player to stop one on one in the league, and he can get you those goals, when goals are hard to come by. He is also the best natural skater in the league, and he has a wicked shot. I'd take Kovalev any day or Satan!

Sabres would never deal Satan to their divisional rival for reasonable price, but for the sake of argument: Kovalev.

Slightly less talent maybe, but much better filled out to complement Habs top lines.
Key thing is Kovalev and Habs are free to walk away each other if/when their views on his salary dont meet, giving some freedom. Satan makes his 5M next year.

To me it's a no brainer. Kovalev is more talented than Satan.

But I wouldn't mine having Satan...

Satan for his grit...

Like J. Demers said " Kovalev is one of the best player in this league, but somehow he disapears way too often and forgets too much about hockey"

Kovalev has tons of skills but lacks intensity too often.

Satan is way less skilled, but much more intense.

Balej and a 2nd pick would not have bring us Satan.

This lead me to said i'm perfectly happy with Kovalev.

Kovalev has more skill in my opinion (Satan is also one of the most skilled players in the league though). He's also bigger and stronger, and will go great on a line with Koivu and Zednik

Wouldn't have minded Satan either though....
