I like the idea of this thread and it's interesting to see how busy Maloney has been at given times.

Would you add the entry draft to that? Not sure what your qualifications are to add to the list.

Apparently Morrison was a Group 6 UFA, so we didn't have the option to qualify him after all.

Waiving Boynton and Adams should be noted. Just because no one claimed them, doesn't mean that they weren't waived.

Thanks for the comments, will attempt to put them in when I get time.

I was also wondering if we should put in rumors as well. Everyone and his dog knows by now that Maloney tried to trade Jovanovski and also he did try to acquire Vokoun and Toskala but baulked at their asking price.

This thread is a great idea. I would keep it only with official transactions to avoid too many informations clashing together.

Just echoing what was said above... great idea to keep a log on the new GM. Maybe a mod could sticky this thread?

I wouldn't go that far, personally.

Just what would you have liked him to have done at this point?

Also, I'm stickying this thread. I fully expect Gwydd to keep the front page current and tidy, though I realize it's a big task. It'll basically be a compilation of everything the Coyotes do from here on out, encyclopedically and chronologically, as a reference for future discussion.

Stick to the building plan, with a couple of decent offensive free agent signings.

He is sticking to the plan; building from within. Why make a bunch of huge signings now just to have their contracts run out in a few years when we desperately need wins? We start the kids now, minus the huge contracts and find out what works with the pieces we already have.

Sticking to the plan? Which plan? The plan known as Rebuilding w/ the youth until we are in a position to add 1 or 2 'major' pieces and challenge for the cup. or the plan formerly known as a rebuild which was basically, buy some 'decent' players, hope for chemistry (and a lightning strike of luck), have a .500 or so season, repeat ad nauseum.

Rebuild = To start over, to work to restore something that has been weakened, damaged, or ruined, to make major alterations or improvements to something. Maloney seems to understand the term w/ heart and head. The second and third meanings are having to be tossed since they haven't worked for us so far.

Was Scatchard waived before he was bought out?

So, would you go with what we have now? Would you start this season, with what players we have now?

Yes, with the hopes that some of our young talent makes the team. This is a rebuild not a retool situation. Building something strong and long lasting takes time. I am tired of the quick fixes that we have tried in the past.

To be fair, we were forced to try to fix things every year because we never had the prospect pool we do now. The drafting that the scouts and Barney did the last few years has been good. Now Maloney just needs to be patient and sell off our talent.

It's mandatory to waive a player before buying them out.

I guess I missed the rumours that Maloney tried to trade Jovo. Where did you see that? I usually just ignore rumours. The fluff letter that Shumway sent out stated that he was one of our vets to look up to.

I am trying to stay optimistic (I love the Coyotes and most of the team), but it's hard to go from amazing hockey at every level to what this team has produced on and off the ice. I am afraid there is not enough people in the front office with hockey backgrounds and it is affecting the game on the ice. You can't bring in the same philosophies as basketball, Indy racing, baseball, etc and apply it to the sport of hockey and the fans.

While Hanzel and Mueller are great additions for next season, I also feel that we need to add a couple of scorers (not the 6M multi year ones though). We were promised a few 1 to 2M guys for the team and it has not happened. I also feel like more time is being spent on the AHL team than on us.

to be honest the focus at this point should be our development system. It's fantastic that guys like Mueller can quickly make the transition to pro with little or any time in the AHL; however, we need to cultivate the Yandle's, Summers, Porters, etc. who are going to need development time before they make that step to the NHL. That's the only way to ensure long-term success in the mold of a Detroit, New Jersey, San Jose, Buffalo, etc. We need to build from within so we don't look at UFA day as the saving grace for this franchise. Given the dollar figures that fly around on July 1st, do we ever really want to be a player in that type of environment? Something to think about.

Darren Dreger of TSN reported the Yotes asked Jovo to waive his NTC and he declined.

I don't believe any of the mainstream media outlets reported a possible destination but the most popular rumor running around HFB was the Islanders.
