My favorite game I attended was the November 1st, 2000 Avalanche vs Canucks game. Jovanovski knocks out Deadmarsh (who has never been the same since) and then scores the game winner in the 3rd. They were flying up and down the ice great action.
Pavel Bure's first game in the NHL. He was just going off. He had two breakaways (unable to score on either) and was burning defenders with shere speed (okay, and a little bit of puckhandling ability ) all night. I was in the front row in the corner, 9 years old, and loving it.
Other than hockey, it would have to be the Bulls vs. the Grizzlies. It was awesome seeing Jordan, Pippen, Kukoc, Rodman, and Kerr all together even though I hate basketball and hated the Grizzlies. I still appreciated getting to sit there and watch one of the greatest teams ever very much.
2002 Stanley Cup Finals game 3. Triple overtime. Even though the Hurricanes lost it was an incredible experience. All the playoff games that year were awesome, but obviously that one stands out. (Although nothing will ever top the 2002 Appalachian St. / Furman football game.)
Didn't go to that game, but it was awesome. Both goalies were incredible, but i would have to say....GAME 7, 2002 Western Conference Cup Finals, Detroit vs. Colorado. Hasek gets the shutout, Roy gets pulled. 7-0 final. Roy and his statue of Liberty pose. Holding his glove up in the air after he makes a great save only to have the puck fall out of his glove and Shanny bang it home. Some say that clinched Roy's retirement.
-1997, First Round, Game 3, Edmonton vs Dallas: Oilers down by 3 with less than 5 to go, Weight makes it 3-1, Kovalenko makes it 3-2, Grier ties it up and Bucky pots the winner in OT, pure insanity.
-2001, First Round, Game 3, Edmonton vs Dallas: Weight gets a game misconduct in the first, and Comrie scores the winner in OT
Despite having been to many, many MLB and NFL games over the years, I've only been to exactly one NHL game in my life - Canucks vs Ducks at GM Place in Vancouver just last month. ( however, used to follow the Chiefs/Flyers/Jets when I lived in Spokane years ago.) Even though the 'nucks lost I'm hooked. Called the Canucks ticket office and ordered a ticket package for next year. Perhaps in time I'll have some of those fine memories of great games that many of you have.
Now if only the NHL and Players Assn. will get down to business on a new CBA so we can have a hockey season next year...
Actually, that was the only game I've been to, so thats pretty much the best game I've attended. Seeing Richter up there was great though, too bad the Rangers couldn't win that game.
After the Ottawa-Philadelphia brawl erased a North Stars-Bruins fight-filled game from the record book, I remembered (barely) attending that game in Boston Garden.
Also, when the Flyers broke the NHL record for consecutive games without a loss (29 which eventually reached 35) in the Garden.
