I find it very hard to believe Zaun has seen TDA. Where did I see him? Down in ST last yr... And a couple of select broadcasts this year out of Vegas.

I'm not sure if Zaun was around for the early parts of ST... He's not a special assistant to the team, he's not a reporter and he wasn't with the jays when TDA was in the system. In fact he didn't have a role broadcasting until this year, and he's based out of Toronto.

Zaun shows such infantile level knowledge of prospects to te point that I doubt he's even read scouting reports, because if he had he would realize this trade wasn't a landslide. For example when discussing the trade this afternoon he failed to even mention Marisnick or Nicolino, the two major prospects, and arguably most valuable pieces going the other way, who coincident were the two guys who didn't play in the majors this year.

If you need more evidence find it somewhere else.
Everyone says "dumb" things. Should we only take someones word if they never do? You'll have trouble believing anyone.

You saw a couple spring training games, (And considering D'Arnaud didn't play in very many that should tell you something), and possibly seeing D'Arnaud on a stream. Zaun and Jamie Campbell were in Dunedin all spring training, and unlike anyone who doesn't work for the team, they saw the behind the scenes traning as well. Zaun as a reporter also talks to members of the Jays staff, etc.

Do you do this? Why should I value your opinion more than someone like him? Really the only reason people say this is they disagree with someone, so they pretend like their opinion is more valuable. Like the people here who jump on Buck and Pat and say they don't know baseball because Buck like many old commentators gets peoples names mixed up. The only guys who get a good reputation here are Dirk Hayhurst (Who's said a lot of things that would piss off people here if he was on all the time like Zaun, for example, he doesn't think WAR is all that great a stat), Jeff Blair and Shi Davidi, all guys who either don't share their personal opinion all that much (Blair and Davidi) or are "new school".

Why I'm defending him is he has infinitely more clout on the topic than you, even if you don't agree with him. I don't care about that either, the problem is you're attacking his credibility, saying he doesn't watch the Jays players/prospects when he definitely has. Did you not watch the Jays this year? They had those segments with Zaun down in Dunedin doing stuff with prospects, and D'Arnaud was in a few of catching segments. I have a hard time believing that he didn't watch a guy he clearly spent time with.

Zaun believes what many would, JPA has played in the MLB, he's shown his talent, D'Arnaud has not. Most pro-sports personel would fall on this type of thinking, the player in the big leagues is better untill the prospect proves it.

Let's stop pretending you know more just because you disagree, because I don't see any other argument from you, it's all: Zaun is dumb! or Zaun hasn't watched these players (When there's clear evidence he has).

Zaun definitely wouldn't be the only person working for a MLB team that would take the stance he has.

Wonder if these signings will change that...

Good backup catcher, allstar (Buck)
Potentially a very good utility player, very versatile (Bonifacio)

No cons unless you count the rumors that Johnson isn't happy which I don't believe at all, and Buehrle's whole pitbull situation.
Buck had a stint with the Jays before IIRC?

Well just reading on TSN Bautista seems to be very happy with the acquisitions.

Every player that comes here absolutely loves it. Bautista, Janssen, Romero, Morrow, Lind, Arencibia are all non canadian citizens and seem to really love it here. How many times has Frasor came back? I bet he was wishing he could come back. Marcum went on board saying he would be open to coming back (even before the big trade) Americans who have left like Johnny Mac, Aaron Hill, John Buck have had very encouraging words... Pat Tabler, Buck Martinez Gren Zaun all ex american players now in the brodcasing industry in Canada. The Jays situation is completely different from the Toronto Raptor situation, where hardly anyone wants to go too. Once there exposed to a full season in Toronto it seems players love it here. Most players even meet there wifes here... All go on bored saying Canadian woman are way hotter then American woman lol.
AFAIK, neither Buck nor Pat actually live in Canada (buck for sure doesn't. He talks about going home in the US often). And only Zaun talks regularly about being out and about in the community on their own (ie not for team/network functions).

Not saying they don't know the truth of Toronto as a good city/market, but it's not like they've converted into full time Torontonians or anything like that.

If they want Arencibia there going to have to pay up, there has to be some incentive to trade a cap friendly player who can play average defensive, provide big time power and is the ultimate team player. Just because we have 3 available starting catchers doesn't mean we should lower the price.

that would be nice if we could pawn off buck to them. Would open up some more salary room.

Also, cot's is showing the marlins cash payment as 8.5M. Anyone have any clue where that number came from?
