Apparently, these are some of the guys the worked on the Mask of the Betrayer thingy for NWN2 - easily the best post-BG story and characters in the Bioware era.
But yeah, as long as it's in the spirit of BG, it's gonna be awesome.
In addition to Windows, the website says that the game will be available for iPad, MacOS X and Android tablets. The Windows and MacOS X versions will be $19.99, while the iPad and Android tablet versions will be $9.99. The difference appears to be that new voice sets and player profiles that will come with the desktop versions will be available for in-app purchase in the mobile versions.
Does anyone else think that $20 is too expensive? I thought this would be half that(or maybe $15). It's a 14 year old game.
Yes, I'm a bit disappointed in the pricing. I understand that they did a lot of work, but, like you said, it's still a 14-year-old game. I might be more inclined to buy the original for $9.99 at gog.com, instead, or just the Android tablet version for $9.99. I think that $14.99 would be more of a fair price for the Windows version. Perhaps, if I don't buy one of the other versions, I'll wait until the price comes down to that. I've waited 14 years to re-play it, after all; another year won't change much.
You know, what would've been nice is if the Windows version were like the mobile versions and employed DLC to keep the price down. If the mobile versions can take some extras out and offer them as DLC, why couldn't the Windows version have been $9.99 with those same extras available as DLC? I know that most of us don't like the idea of removing content in order to sell it as DLC, but when you're talking about a drastic price decrease, especially of 50%, that changes things completely, I think. Anyways, I'm just wondering out loud. It's beside the point, since they didn't go that route and won't now.
Wait a sec the website isn't clear on this, will this be Balders gate 1 and 2 combined or is it just a new version of Balders Gate 1? I thought it was going to be the for both games, but the website makes it look like it's just for the first.
As for a Planescape Torment update, I don't know about that but there's another game of it's type called Inquisitor that's coming out if you want a novel in a game thing. Never heard of it till yesterday but I guess the European version came out in 2009 after 10 years in development, and the English translation is just entering Beta. Took so long because it's apparently well over 1000 pages of text. Link

Yeah, and it's only going to be an upgraded Infinity engine? Not a port into at least Aurora (NWN's engine)? And it won't be on Steam or GOG, but Beamdog?

Looks more Diablo than P:T, but still worth a look.
The only game that I thought was close to Planescape was Arcanum, and that was a flawed gem at best. Same with Fallout 1&2.
They just don't make good turn based games anymore, and the few that they try don't have the non-combat solutions to many quests/puzzles that Planescape had.

It's BG 1 with the expansion included (Tales of the Sword Coast).
This is the best game ever IMO and I'll gladly fork out 20 bucks for it.
The extra content alone seems awesome, let alone all the improvements the ToB engine let them do.
Especially when you think rubbish like D3 went for 60 EUR.
Heard this just went live today for PC but was pushed back a week for Ipad. Wondering if anyone has checked it out; or if anyone is going to??
I loved the Baldur's Gate series, and still think it was one of the best RPG experiences to date (others could have surpassed if they used the party system IMO).
Anyway, was thinking of checking it out on Ipad; but now I'm worried about it's performance and might just go for the PC version. I have an original Ipad anyway, so I'm probably already behind the 8 ball for that version.
Based on what has been released about the game to this point, it looks like they added in some mods, some extra quests and companions, changed the UI which wasn't needed on the PC side, and actually made the graphics worse in a few areas due to not having the original works.
If that's worth your $20 then okay. I'd sooner suggest paying $9.99 on GOG.com and adding in the mods yourself. There are even unified installers out there which install all the needed mods in one sweep. Tablet version is a different issue.

Don't think that's fair really.
What you get, and what you can't get with old mods:
- 3 new NPCs
- new stand-alone adventure
- new quests
- new items
- native resolution for high res wide screen
- something like 400 bug fixes from the original game
- lots of cosmetic changes (new players voices, new portraits, new intros and art etc.)
I've never beat these games, but I just bought the original versions recently, so no reason to update. I didn't grow up with these (I grew up playing Dark Sun and Al-Qadim as my PC RPGs), so these don't have a huge barring on me. Seem like great games, but I'll stick with what I have.
I really wish someone would release Dark Sun or Al-Qadim though. I would freaking love to play those games again with fighting with DosBox.
For what they can do to improve it? Could be tough but I'd love it if they could cut the gap between the two games and make it a smooth in-game transition from beating Balder's Gate to 1ending up in Jon Irenicus' dungeon to start Balders Gate 2. Just turn it all into one huge game.
there is; but I know a lot of people that wouldn't search it out and be able to install it properly. I did, but I know other people that wouldn't (just to clarify).
