Petry won't waive his NMC to go to a bad team like Vancouver but he would for L.A. his dad former Tigers pitcher Dan Petry is born in California and his whole family is from there

Bad contract hey??

How about Petry + Gallagher + McCarron

vs

Muzzin + Brown

I don't mean he's a bad player, but our D, especially our right side, is full already: Tryamkin, Tanev, Stetcher, Gudbranson and Biega all play right. Edler leaving leaves us with Hutton, Sbisa, and presumably Juolevi next year.

So if we take Petry on, he has to fill the role of not only Edler, but also who ever he displaces.

0 interest from Vancouver in Petry for Edler. Detroit trading futures doesn't make sense either.

Management has said they won't ask Edler to waive his NMC, and Edler has said he wants to stay in Vancouver, and that's what wrong with the premise without even addressing value.
We have no reason to be trading Edler for Petry. If Sbisa is picked in the expansion draft we run:

Edler-Stecher
Tryamkin-Tanev
Hutton-Gudbrandson

If Sbisa isn't picked- it allows us to move Edler for a futures package and run:

Hutton-Tanev
Sbisa-Stecher
Tryamkin-Gudbrandson

Regardless- Petry does nothing for us.

What would be the cost for Galchenyuk to come to Vancouver? I assume high but would love to have him.

Galchenyuk is not available unless it is massive over payment. he's 23 and on a 0.8ppg pace there aren't many of those.

Fair enough on the muzzin comment he is a elite number 2 on a great contact.

So I bite, what's the cost of Martinez?

Sergachev is a LHD.

What a bizarre thread.

Why not try to consider context. I know I know. College terms and all. But if you consider the context of where Vancouver is, then yeah maybe it's not so smart to trade backwards.
Petry for Edler is backwards for Vancouver. Rebuilding teams don't want to spend more on a position they have their depth in. Especially now with Tanev Stecher and most likely Gudbranson back, why oh why would we pay a guy a million more to provide less than Tanev?
We'd rather trade Edler in a rebuilding move based on picks and young players/prospects. But seeing as you can fathom the needs of the other team I'll just leave it at this.

We need, in no particular order: Young high end forwards, top six forward prospects and high picks.

I feel we couldn't be more clear on why Petry makes no sense for Vancouver, but if you have a few of the above assets burning a hole in your teams pockets, let's talk about Edler. No one here thinks that Edler will be part of this team when we can compete again, so if we can send him to a contender, we're open to the idea (as much as he has been a fan favorite). We traded Burr and Honey Badger, so if Edler waives his NMC, he could be a Hab. But as with Los Angeles, we have no reason to take another top four D back, the biggest difference is we're rebuilding and have 0 hope of turning things around short term.

I would agree with the canucks fans, it doesn't make sense for them... and maybe a habs fan can correct me on that on that one but doesn't Sergachev play LD, with a RHS?

he's LHS and plays RD

100% will get converted to LD when he comes to Montreal. Might play 1 year on the 3rd pairing RD.

Montreal isn't trading an etablished top 4 RD to give the spot to a LHD rookie.

This thread is made by a sour fan not happy with Petry performance in the last month or 2 even though he's having the best season of his life.

Makes zero sense for the Canucks to downgrade, take on salary, and swap a position of greater need at LD for a RD.

I don't think Petry could shoulder Edler's minutes.

There would have to be a decent sweetener for Vancouver to consider this.

Plain and simple Petry won't waive nmc for Vancouver and LA doesn't want or need him.

No. The trade is made by a Habs fan who clearly sees a biggest need on LD to play top minutes with Weber

LaDue is a fine depth defenseman, but he is nowhere near Voynov.
