If you want to blame the players you can blame them for choosing Donald Fehr to represent them. His negotiation strategy is ruthless(it has to be) and Bettman/owners hate dealing with him. I think he is doing a great job for the players.
One thing that is beyond confusing is the way both sides want to play the media/public/fan perception. There is no way either side would allow a 3rd party's opinion to alter what they want.
No one is ever going to think: "Hey, (Bob Mckenzie or Fan X) is really pissed off, maybe we should move off our demands."
Perhaps I'm being melodramatic, but this feels like a bad break up, in the sense that I now hate looking at the NHL logo, watching NHL network, or highlights on youtube. **** all of them.

If the Owners movement isn't real/generous movement, then neither is the players. Owners offer was the same as the players offers. Literally the exact same thing. Just switched to their side. The fact that people can't understand this is laughable. Why is it alright for the players to reasonably offer to play with 57% of HRR on their side but it isn't alright for the owners to reasonably to have the same for their side?
Okay, the players had between 52%-57% of the revenue in the previous CBA, that doesn't mean they have the right to have just that in the next CBA.
More important, how in the ****ing world can anyone think Donald Fehr is actually doing a good job? He has lost his side $700,000,000 in salary and if he doesn't get this done in the next couple he will have lost them $1.8 billion dollars.
The second we started missing games Donald Fehr did injustice to his constituents. A good job would have been establishing a working relationship with the league and getting a deal in October where the players could earn their full share and still maintain their high salaries...you know like the NFL did.
There is literally no sane way you could argue that Donald Fehr is doing a good job for the players. Zilch.
He may be doing a great job for teams like Florida and Phoenix though, by saving them boatloads of cash.
