Although the voting is likely just a formality, they have to know for sure that the PA has approved the new CBA before getting any operations underway. As long as they're still counting votes, they don't know if it's approved.

My guess is enough votes have been cast already ( I believe they could start today?) to ratify the CBA.

um, everything is electronic...the one counting the results is a computer
Even after they ratify, I believe they have to sign the actual cba document first. So that probably will take place later in the day after the votes are in and the announcement is made.
If/When it is passed they have to give the players time to get to camp. A lot of players are already in town for camp but some are waiting. Also no reason to call up guys from the AHL and CHL before you know for sure the season is going to start

Told that there is exchange of many drafts of CBA language which will be attached to MOU. Actual CBA isn't going to be signed for awhile.

Camp and Regular Season will begin with only MOU signed, once Players' on-line vote is completed on Saturday.#dropthepuck
A bit OT, but does this mean that shortly after 8AM est on Saturday, the MOU will be signed and transactions between teams, as well as signings can take place? Or do they have to wait a bit longer to start that?
So to my understanding, trades/signings can't happen until both parties have ratified. Does that mean we could see a potential "trade deadline" like day on Saturday? I'm assuming GMs have been waiting to pull the trigger on some trades. I would guess if you are going to make a change, you would want it done before training camp starts. Anyone have any input on this?
Yeah this makes no sense to me at all and it's even worse in the west. The thing closes at 5am or 6am depending where you are and because of that...they can't do their physicals and testing etc??
teams are already scrimmaging together, is there any difference in it being called camp or not?
Came to post this same thing, from what I'm hearing almost everyone is back and the teams have been scrimming at their facilities for the last couple of days. Most players have took initiative and been working out and playing hockey with their teammates, they don't need to be told when and how.
they're writing the contract that governs the league, the teams, the players, sponsors and billions of dollars in revenue... it takes time to draft these things and double check them.
