I agree with this. There is no need to rush trading these 2 guys now when thier value is so low. If they stay healthy and put up good numbers then at the deadline next year, They might be worth ALOT.
If Markov blows out his knee next season, he'll be worth zero. Even if he's healthy I don't see his or Gionta's value going up much. You're not going to pay extra for potential or a future, just a decent player with hopefully a couple of good seasons left on the odometer.
I'd trade Plekanec, Gionta and Markov if we can get a reasonable return for them. I'd keep Markov if somebody was willing to take Kaberle for a reasonable return.
Montreal gets rid of Gomez, who is immediately sent to the AHL to play in Rochester with the option of going to Europe, Buffalo pays 10 million dollars and Luke Adam (decent prospect will either be a 2/3C or 2nd-3rd Line LW) to move up in the first round. Everyone is happy.

Maybe my dopamine level is low, but i cant find Happiness in this deal. Maybe after an Ice cream...
While i guess both can afford it, I wonder who is the owner the most willing to spend millions $ for a player to play in the AHL. I cant picture Buffallo being in a greatly better position than Montreal to afford it.

Pegula is Paying 5 million this year for Kotalik and Morrisson to play in the minors, why not 5.5 Next year then 4.5 the year after. Pegula genuinly doesn't care about blowing money on this team. I believe his words on spending money on the Sabres were "If I wanted to make money I'd dig another gas well."
I guess the better wording would be everyone is content rather then happy.

I know the new Buffallo owner is rich, but Montreal is not a poor team...
Not to the point to sacrifice future asset to get rid of contract.
But if we was a poor team, i would definitely consider it.

Sabres could toss in the Nashville first in addition, and maybe TJ Brennan instead of Luke Adam (better prospect) the only reason I wonder about it is the fact that Montreal has a lot of free agents this off season, including price, so the extra cap space may help. So would this deal be easier to swallow?
To Buffalo:
Scott Gomez
2012 First round pick
To Montreal
2012 first round Pick (Buf)
2012 first round pick (Nsh)
D - TJ Brennan

First put Gomez out of the equation, he is not a factor.
We can work on a deal for Montreal 1st overall pick, im not agaisnt the idea to trade down and draft Subban
First thing first: we should wait the final position of Nashville 1st 2012. It could be everywhere between 20th and 30th overall, the gaps is Significant in value.
Question: which player would you want with the 3rd overall pick?
Theodore was 28yo and the season before we drafted Price he was still a top 10 goalies in the league in about every stats.
Both was franchise goalie. At the time we drafted Price, many questioned the move because we already had Theodore.
You draft the best avaible player, even if you are deep at a position and you can move up/down if you think it worth it.
Since Malcom Subban grew up as a Montreal fan, and the chance he could play with his big brother, i think it worth it to take a look at drafting him.
Why drafting Price while you have already a Franchise goalie in Theodore when you can instead draft a forward like Brule or Skille, or a defenseman like Brian Lee ?
Why indeed.....
Well it's a good thing we did draft Price. We all know what happened tho theo.
Drafting M.Subban is the least of the Habs worrys.

Buf really doesn't have the right pieces to give us for our 1st.
What your offering here is as many would say is 3 nickels for a quarter
Adams or Brennan and two your two picks are even close to get our pick.
We are drafting a top 1st line centerman with that pick.

I don't see Buffalo having any single asset I would want enough to deal away the 3rd overall. Sorry.
Markov has played what, less than 25 games the last 2 years combined? I don't care how good a Dman he is, he could be Bobby Orr, but if he's never on the ice, he has very little value.
I lol'd at that comparison because it seemed to apply to Markov pretty well.
Bobby Orr's NHL games played (including playoffs) after his 27th birthday: 47.
