I'm guessing it's a business decision, that aside, the guy's trash for holding out on his kids and not paying his income tax.
Who does he think he is?
Discharge the unsecured debt in order to catch up and continue to pay the child support. Pretty sure sap was surprised to hear that his child support obligations survive bankruptcy.
No doubt his ex's are/were taking legal action on the arrears for child support, garnisheeing his wages because he wasn't making payments voluntarily.
Sooner or later, one way or the other, he'll pay the ladies.....
