I'll answer that question in about 1 month.

That hurts, only $200k more than Adams.

It would have been really nice to be able to re-sign Stempniak in Dupuis' role (ideally 3rd line winger), but Shero left a couple of big, nasty, rotting eggs before he left in Scuderi's and Dupuis' deals. JR's gotta find a creative way to get around those deals before he can really lay claim to the roster as his own. That's a big chunk of change taking up cap space.

How prescient. Dark side of the force clouding everything right now?

Eh I think Stempniak became a bit overrated here simply because he could occasionally make a 1 on 1 move that none of our other forwards could do sans Sid and Geno. Though I would take him at 900K on our third line over Duper and the 3.whatever million he makes.

Exactly. It's not about Stemniak being some kind of stellar player and $900k being a steal. The issue is that we have a ~$4M, 35 year old winger who is coming off of major reconstructive knee surgery and his entire game is predicated on speed. He was a third liner to begin with, he just overachieved alongside Sid and Kunitz. Now that he's one year older, and his knee is untested? I don't want him on the third line, let alone bogging down Sid's line.

Shero really ****ed up big time, but as time goes on, it's apparent he did so pretty often.

No worries mate. Holy **** Marian Hossa is 35 all of a sudden. Still has something like 7 years of his contract to go too.

I wonder how everything would be different had he signed with the Pens after '08. I believe it was for 7 years, right? He'd be a UFA next off-season unless my subtraction is brutal (which is possible).

Free Willie said something today that Bylsma would have never, ever said "if it's a tie, you go with the young guy".
