Please point out where it has been done, because I haven't seen it. And I have stated why it is it's own genre and reasons why I think it is a few times in this thread. Go read it.

You could count metal as both depending on how broad of a brush you want to paint with. I consider them distinct things because, for instance, there are subgenres of medal, but you can't really subdivide, say, prog rock.

Is progressive metal a sub-genre of metal or progressive rock?

That's an interesting case, because it's not really a subdivision of progressive rock so much as it is the lovechild of prog rock and metal. Personally, I don't associate, for instance, Tool with prog rock as much as metal, purely based off of their broader sonic qualities.

They had an intimate show here in KC at a 250 person venue (one of 4 such shows they played). They will be back in October or so for $10 bucks at the larger indoor theater.

Last week I saw the Cure (one of the best shows I've ever seen...they played for almost 3 hours), Lumineers, and Two Door Cinema Club. Two Door was awesome and it was at a great venue. That was a blast.

I love Two Door. I am super psyched to see them at Lollapalooza next month.

And the show last night was awesome. They played a great set and the crowd was really into it.

Twenty One Pilots have become my flavor of the day. Really like a lot of their music.

Seeing Phish at Wrigley tonight. Not really a fan, but hey, $15 tickets are hard to pass up.

Everyone I talked to said they put on a hell of a show. Even with Axl being all old...and fat

I'll cut Axl some slack, because being in my 40's...I know how things just don't come as easily as they did in my 20's or 30's. And he did lose a ton of weight from where he was 3-4 years ago.

I wish I went to the GNR show at Soldier Field. I've just spent so much money on other things this year. Did a 4 day weekend in NYC seeing PJ, and now we have an 8 day California vacation coming up in a few weeks. I had to stop it at that.

I never want to get old. Even at 26 I can't eat like I used to. Metabolisms slow down and those late night "**** it I'm getting a burger and fries at 3am" moments take 2 days of working out to recover from.

Not surprised to see a mega rock star being chunky

Gilmour back in April was the first big concert I've gone to. If Knopfler ends up doing another tour, which I'm fairly certain he will, he's another one on my bucket list.

Haha. My late night 2nd meals were usually "**** it, I'm getting a steak burrito and cheese fries at 3am". Know the feeling, though. I think since I graduated high school 13+ years ago I've put on 60-70lbs. I don't bother weighing myself anymore.

But back on topic, I would have loved to go see the GnR show.

Recently I've been to Modest Mouse, Buzz Beach Ball (Alabama Shakes, Kaleo, Eagles of Death Metal, Fitz, etc), St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and just got back from seeing JR JR and Atlas Genius for free (Atlas always rocks). Tomorrow it's Duran Duran, and next week it's Borns and Miike Snow.

Of that group the acts I'd recommend the most are St. Paul, Kaleo, and Eagles of Death Metal. St. Paul and the Broken Bones are amazing and he is one hell of a singer. Kaleo is blowing up pretty fast and it's well deserved. I saw an acoustic improv set at a record store that was very good and they absolutely rocked at Beach Ball. Them and Eagles easily were the best performances of the weekend. Eagles are just entertainers that make things fun and get the crowd engaged.

I've got tickets for Tame Impala at Red Rocks (bought by plane ticket last week....psyched for that one), Wilco, Lake Street Dive, Beck in StL, Young the Giant, Local Natives, Gary Clark, The Cult, Honne, and Broncho. I'm sure there are others I am missing and I want to see both Kaleo and Moon Taxi at a new venue in StL.

It's been a great year for shows here locally. I also might do Sunday of Lou Fest so I can see LCD Soundsystem and Wild Belle. Really pissed that Yeasayer didn't make a stop here but you can't win them all. MOTHXR is another one that should be good.

Mama Said by Lukas Graham is a great song. Actually, Lukas Graham in general is pretty great.

Seen Tame Impala twice now. Caught em in a few weeks ago in early June. They put on the 2nd best show I've ever seen in my life. Simply amazing.
