The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
A strong PHX team in the playoffs may bring a new owner.
If any team only drew 8,000 paying fans for the playoffs they should leave but we both know the games will be sold out and not with 10,000 freebies.
The first game still has about 140 tickets left, the second game has 2 pairs and a few singles so lots of paying customers that night....it will be fun.
From the people I have talked too, tons of people moved here from Chicago so it will be mixed but the crowd should know the long-term ramifications.
What will be the price for those tickets? In Montreal first row tickets in the Conference finals went to 1k$-1.5$ and were sold 2.5k$to 3k$ on the black market. You wont be close to make any money this year, the only thing that matters is a conference or a Stanley cup participation. And of course the Jobbing arena will be filled but the most important thing will be TV attendance that will be only significant if they go to later rounds.

Maybe the Jets will make the playoffs someday and I can say equally ignorant things about their fans.
Making the playoffs or not have never stopped your fanbase from "attacking" Jets fans as you have accused us of "attacking" your fanbase over and over again. Check your hands again and you will see the blood stains prevelant all over them just as you claim is all over ours.

The Coyotes should be charging more $$$$ for 1st round playoff tickets.

I would say that for the purpose of the thread that how much tickets are scalped for is not relevant.
It's whether the tickets are sold at face value that is relevant.

You can sell any number of tickets directly at the arena or by scalped it doesn't matter the original price is the same. It would take 5 filled jobbing arenas to make as much money as Toronto or Montreal in the playoffs. They won't raise the price of those tickets cause they know people might not be able to afford it 85$ for a playoffs ticket in Montreal or Toronto that's still less than the furthest seat in the arena same for Winnipeg and Quebec. If a new owner comes in it will surely not be based on those prices but based on a gradual raise of the regular season tickets and radical raise of playoff tickets based purely on the success the team would encounter for the next seasons. That's why Phoenix needs to reach the conference finals, the only way the team could be marketed on TV to a wider audience that for the last 15 years didn't give a S***.
PHX was dead last in attendance this season at 12,420 seats. They sold 72.5 percent of their seats. The closest playoff team to the Coyotes was Florida, ranked 23 overall. They averaged 16,628 and sold 86.6% of their seats this season, to put it in perspective.

Let's not kid anyone, things are ugly in Phoenix
Coyote Ugly
Pre-season tickets are priced higher in many markets. Barring a cup win I cannot see a playoff run attracting a serious tire buyer.
[QUOTE=Fidel Astro;47602151]Does home ice advantage really mean anything if the home ice is in Glendale?
It's not like the Coyotes have a rabid fanbase that is going to give the team a huge morale boost. /QUOTE]
Why don't you tell us how you really feel about Phoenix and its Coyote fans?
You think that 15 thousand clowns insulting the opposing players brings an overwhelming advantage to a local team? All it does is embarrass the home team's players, who bring far more respect for the opposition to the arena than the clearly less educated fans.
Playing in front of a home crowd, even one with a sizeable away crowd (think Buffalo, Ottawa, LA and Anaheim) is still some advantage. Sleeping in your own bed before the game is another home field advantage. Last line change and face offs, particularly with a coach like Tippett, is yet another, and very significant advantage.

IIRC The very moment that Winnipeggers got wind that the Coyotes might go to the Peg instead of Hamilton a withering attack by Peggers, both on HF and on the Phoenix newspaper boards, began. Did you really expect anyone down there to simply roll over and absorb that attack without giving it back with interes? Didn't happen. You got it back. I see no signs of the animosity against Winnipeg waning down here. Blowback is a Biotch and that's what you're complaining about.

What do Nashville fans and their "You Suck" chant after announcing opposition players have to do with this discussion?
Home crowds are great especially in the playoffs and some buildings throughout the league during the regular season. No matter what I do not see a playoff run assisting in a local sale of the Coyotes but anything is possible. Everyone is entitiled to an opinion.

Alex Ovechkin soaks up 'Ovi sucks,' 'Crosby's better' chants
The crowd there has the reputation as one of the loudest in the league, something players enjoy, even with the intimidation factor.
“I'd much rather have the building loud and crazy like that than a morgue,” Washington Capitals defenseman Dennis Wideman said. “I enjoy playing in these buildings. You've got to find a way to take that energy from the crowd and make it feel like they're cheering for you.”
So that's what Alex Ovechkin tried to do Friday night as Jets fans serenaded him with not just boos but “Ovi sucks” and “Crosby's better” chants.
Ovechkin heard it loud and clear.
“It's always nice when they talk about you and then get the chants. I love it,” the captain said. “It's great for the league, it's great for us.”
