Tommy Wingels to NYR

I know SJ just re-upped Wingels to a three year deal so I'm sure they're in no rush to trade him. He's a guy I would love to add to the NYR roster. Has size, shoots righty. Can play center or wing. Would be a fantastic addition to the Rangers third line.

Opening this thread because I honestly have no idea what it would take to get him from SJ.

Would JT Miller and another prospect get it done?

It would have to be a pretty good prospect. We are not looking to trade Tommy Wingels.

He fits on our 3rd line perfectly and young, so he won't get dealt during the "rebuild". Not saying he's untouchable, but I'd want a really, really good forward prospect just like Wingels, or a solid top4 puck-moving LHD.

Honestly, I think we need Wingels more than NYR needs him. You have a better chance getting Jamie McGinn from the Avs.

Figured as much. Management showed faith in him this off-season with that three-year deal. Was just curious if that was actually the case or not.

I guess he's one of those - more important to us than you so you'll have to overpay type guys.

Problem is, the only way the Rangers can make a trade is without opening up another hole in the roster somewhere to get that player. Tough call.

Thanks for the input!

That should have been obvious after the first sentence of your OP. He's not a guy you'll be able to grab for scraps.

The only way we move Wingles is for a really good 2nd pairing left handed dman. He is a perfect third liner.

The Rangers just signed Tanner Glass to a three-year deal, but something tells me he's expendable

Definitely out of my price range unless you're looking for potential 2nd pairing left-handed dman as well. In which case, Connor Allen is your guy.

Can't imagine the Rangers would be willing to part with Staal for a third liner.

But again, this just goes back to the he's worth more to us so you'll have to overpay theory which is totally fine! Every team has those players, I just wanted to check in and confirm my belief that Wingels was one of them for SJ.

Very highly regarded by everyone in the Sharks organization. No chance he gets moved, but would love to have him and he fits in perfectly in Vigneault's system.

He impresses me a bit every time I watch him. No reason for SJ to move him.

You have to remember this is HF, where 1 ok season warrants a king's ransom.

Doug Wilson doesn't do sign&trades, Wingels isn't available.

Who is asking for a king's ransom?

Oh wait, this is HF where you can make a BS post with no substance to it after a quick check of the stats.

Or, where teams that are built to contend (until Wilson trades a key contributor, this team is not rebuilding), don't trade young, valued contributors unless it makes the team better. Barring the acquisition of an elite forward, the only way I see SJ getting better is drastically improving on the trio of Mueller, Irwin, and Hannan.

Wingels is an ideal third liner who can play a complimentary top 6 role, if surrounded by better players- you know, guys like Thornton, Couture, Marleau, Pavelski, or Hertl.

He is fast, physical, good defensively, an effective penalty killer, signed cheap for 3 years, and only 26. The Sharks almost never have a 15-20 goal threat on their third line.

Um, setoguchi may argue that. What was it, ten days or so after signing he was sent in a package for burns?

You're going to laugh, but we'd want someone like Kreider in return. We'd even add, but Wingels is a player we don't want to trade. Staal also holds appeal, and again, we'd add. I know that any player can be traded, but unless were filling a huge hole or upgrading on Tommy, we have no incentive to trade a young player who's establishing himself as a core player. Basically, the cost to acquire him will far exceed his actual worth in a trade.

Wingels made every single line he played on better this past year. He's just an extremely versatile player. He doesn't have one standout strength, but I don't think he has a single real weakness to his game either. Just the perfect player to have and just plug in anywhere you need him. As others have said, there's no point in moving him unless it's for a better young player. Connor Allen holds no interest.

No way I'd trade the top fwd prospect (Miller) for him. Let alone add a prospect.
