Fox's Tim McCarver: Social networking 'disturbing'

It didn't take long into the season for Tim McCarver to raise a few eyebrows. McCarver, who was calling Fox's telecast of Saturday's game between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, decided to share his views on social media between pitches while trading lines with partner Joe Buck.

"There is nothing in my view more disturbing than social networking — nothing," McCarver said.

Social networking is still a relatively new phenonemon. It's unrealistic to expect old timers like McCarver to readily accept it (see Cherry, Don as a better example of this). And while many aspects of it are indeed great, there are aspects of it that can be considered disturbing. His comment is not going to make me enjoy him any less (and yes I'm one of those rare birds who like him AND Buck. )

McCarver has always been bad (remember his insistence that Lonnie Smith was deked by Chuck Knoblauch in the 1992 World Series when it was clear that Smith never even looked at him while rounding second?), but he is downright unbearable nowadays. He's senile. He and Joe Buck couldn't even identify pitches correctly in the World Series last year.

McCarver is such a hack. I cringe having to watch games he and Buck call.
