And besides this is really a big blow to a lot of teams outside of NHL. Players leaving their Lockout clubs thinking of the Lockout ending. But all the leagues around the world are in midseason or further and some may even lose 3-4 players at the same time, thats really unfair.!
They should have cancelled the season about a month ago!
They should have set a drop dead date to cancel the season much earlier. Would have sped the process.

What does Toronto have to do with anything? All the principals are in NY right now.

And 'if' it gets done tonight it'll be more like 4 AM in the morning, I ain't staying up for that. The most I'm staying up for is to hear about the DOI filing, probably. Even if, like someone said they could announce a deal in time for US-Canada in the WJC

My predictions
They've agreed on the 6-7 NHL model(6 for UFA, 7 for own resigns)
variance is still a small difference
cap is still a small difference
CBA term agreed on.

How can you be negative and think this will end the season?
They aren't basing their negativity on anything, just the fear of let down.

Nobody would have believed a drop dead date earlier than now...not when there's already precedent for a 48-game season starting in mid-January. Someone on another board still thinks THIS is a phony deadline (that person is ridiculously pro-PA and thinks the owners lie about everything though)

IMO 15% is reasonable if they have a 6 year limit.
Maybe 15% from highest to lowest paying salary in the contract. 15% every year wouldn't close the loophole.

Do you really think the season will be canceled for either of those two issues? I sure don't.
Those are just the corn flakes pishers that get grumpy when they see optimism.

Absolutely, no doubt. All the games that Fehr played and continues to play have all been for nothing. At the end of the day there will still be a contract cap around 5-6yrs with variance around 10%-15%. The same for the rest of the details. They will all fall in and/or around what the NHL has been presenting since October... The money the players lost during this horror is still gone forever. This has been a complete waste of time and nothing will be gained from this. Of course the players will spew their rhetoric in the media saying they won on a lot of their key issues but the bottom line is that the players were always going to lose these negotiations. They should have accepted that and gotten a deal done back in the fall when they all could have made more millions. What a complete joke this has been from the PA.

I'm really pissed off that it took them until January to start actually negotiating. A 52 game season would be pretty awesome though. That's a lot of hockey in a little amount of time
