Had they been able to pull it off, I would have been elated. But they would have failed. Both the Farrelly brothers and Carrey have been rolling out duds left and right. Both of their ships have sailed.

I'm still unclear how a sequel has any effect on the original.

Hahaha, I've noticed that.
It's not like I love the prequel, I've seen it twice. But compared to most prequels and sequels, it was a solid addition rather then a terrible addition.
