My Samsung HDTV LCD, the flat panel broke. Luckily for me; I had an extended warranty so I get a $650 credit.
I am not going to get an LCD again, don't trust them.
Budget is 1K max (perhaps I can go to $1250...but I'd prefer below 1K).
I want at a minimum:
-LED, 1080P, 120HZ
-At least 46 inches, IF I expand my budget than 50-52 or 55.
-SmartTV and 3D nice, but practically works best.
I was told these were the best models, before I buy, wanted to ask:
1) Are these models good?
2) Any others to recommend or go with these?
-If I expand my budget, what are good in the 50-55 inch range?
I was about to say this. yep barely a difference I would go plasma baby crystal clear and far cheaper

I think I figured it out to be 3 hours of ugage used was around 14 cents with Plasma compared to 3 or 4 cents with LCD. Doesn't seem like much but $10 vs $3 a month over the lifetime of a TV really changes the cost of the TV.

That's really not true with the New Plasma's. Yes they use more electricity than LCD, but not much.
Plasma's also have a better picture and cost less.

I would agree. Burn ins and power consumption has been reduced in many different Plasma models, but there is a reason they are the cheapest while displaying a superior picture. LCD LED is the way to go in my opinion. I am looking to replace my back lit LCD with an LED model as well.

I know op had an LCD die but most people I know that run into quick problems are all on large plasmas...
My LCD has been great for 4 years. I went with it specifically because I run my PC off of it a quarter of the time.
the new plasmas don't get burn ins anymore (rare). plasma is cheaper because it is an old technology so its cheaper to manufacture. there's a reason they are still around. is LED better overall? of course but in terms of picture quality its very close. energy and a thinner tv led wins.
if you have the money go LED. If you want a bigger tv thats cheaper go plasma and don't care if its an inch and a half thicker and uses more energy. picture quality is almost even
I don't mean to be rude, but most of you are wrong. LCD/LED is same technology, different back light. LED is slimmer and perhaps looks nicer but also a bit more expensive. The difference in LED to plasma depends on what kind of programming you watched,as well what darkness or light there is in the room. I myself would not buy an LG, they are the low end of the good brands. I always liked Panasonic myself, but Samsung is always a good choice. Sharp I would avoid.
If you're worried about your budget, and even if you're not, I'd go plasma. As long as the room isn't to bright for the plasma there's really no debate as far as I'm concerned.
Regardless of the cost the better picture is the plasma (IMO and technically/scientifically). Personally I gladly pay the higher power consumption rates for the better picture. Why would I want to spend more up front for a worse PQ but be reassured that I'll get my money back? I don't want my money back, I want a better picture. If you don't see a discernible difference between the two (which some don't), then by all means pay the money up front and then get it back in lower consumption rates.
You may simply prefer the brighter picture that comes along with LED and LCD technologies, if that's the case then go with the product that you think looks best. And with the lower consumption rates, it's win/win for you (eventually).
Although plasma technology may be older than LED it's still better at what it's designed to do. That is display a picture. The black levels are darker. Plasma gas doesn't have a problem with the red spectrum as does LED and LCD. And with a near instantaneous response time (not to be confused with refresh rate) of the plasma gas, all the money you're spending on higher refresh rate(s) for LCD/LED is made null and void. Plasma don't have a problem displaying any picture even at 60hz. Most of them are now rated at 600hz, just to blow the competition out of the water in a senseless (for plasma anyway) numbers game .
For the record I have both in my home plasma and LCD.

Smart and 3d are killing your 1k budget. Even then you're down to a Toshiba. Although I've heard they're trying to make inroads back into the market and are getting better.

yep my buddy is a manager in electronics at a store and he told me this. led is brighter though because of it

The highest rated HDTV's in Consumer Reports are all Plasmas.
Plasmas don't get burn in anymore.
The same sized Plasma & LCD will use about the same amount of electricity.
Plasma's are 600 Mhz, the fastest LCD is 240 Mhz, most are 120 Mhz or 60 Mhz.
Plasma's display dark colours better than LCD's.
LCD are better in rooms that get a lot of sunlight.

Yes you are correct the only difference between LCD and LED LCD is the back light.
Consumer Reports disagrees on LG.

Problem though....I expected to be able to stream games on there from myP2P and others. So I tried yesterday and was told I needed to download a plugin....which I can't since it is not a PC.
Any help/tips so that when I want to stream a game from a secondary site I can?

I don't think you can do that. Hook up a computer to it.
