Our media is horrible. Why does no one ask good questions? Someone should have asked Carlyle straight up why is Gardiner not up with the big club yet? Since Eakins has said he's more than 100% and been producing. Also that Holzer among others have been struggling and the defense has been struggling to move the puck and create offense. Not to mention he was excellent last year and one of our most important players.
Why has no one asked this question? It is unacceptable that Gardiner is in the AHL right now while Holzer and Kostka are bubbling around derp derp herpdiderpitydoo. Like come on. Bring it up atleast, maybe Carlyle forgot Gardiner even exists? Media needs to bring it up to him.

It's a pretty simplistic past time with no real questions to ask.
Problem is not only in Toronto but everywhere around the league IMO. Guys are asking superficial questions when fans often have already a good knowledge and want their coach and GM to answer some of their disputable move and decisions.
Media is going way too easy on those guys. They couldn't be softer if they were paid by their local franchise indeed.

Nobody talks to you if you ask "real" questions. Simple as that.
Its like if a reporter says (extremely random question…just trying to give an example) - "why have you sucked so much lately? Is it because you're getting divorced?" that guy would be blacklisted and his career would be over.
It's with every team anymore I think. Maybe not Montreal and the Rangers but every other team's media is as soft as it gets.
I think a lot of it has to do with mass media taking over. When it was just a few beat writers and a columnist here or there, the teams knew fans depended on those guys whether they were diligent reporters or not. Now, they're almost forced to be nice to the teams, as access will just be eliminated due to the other 600 reporters standing out the front door.
All questions and answers in NHl media (for the most part) are PC, learned behavior. I would love to see more conversational questioning to get players to answer from their hearts instead of their brains.
Most people are uncreative, even in your average friendship/relationship people seldom ask or require the other person to really think about what they're saying.
Now when you get into specifics such as a sport, it's even more difficult to create interesting questions/interviews.
On Ottawa's behalf I present exhibits A and B for your consideration:

Hate to burst your bubble, but when talking to people outside your fanbase (IE NHL General Discussion Forum), don't expect them to be able to know who the hell you are talking about when you put the faces of people in the local media.
