Seriously though, no one is saying Ovechkin is not good, he's strong, big, and pretty fast but he's nowhere near the 2005-08 Ovechkin when it comes to athleticism and the current version of Jagr while nowhere as good he once was, is still in my mind a better physical specimen than Ovechkin is.
Phil Kessel is actually pretty impressive with his skating and shooting, but his compete level can be pretty poor.

As for ovechkin, well it's fair to say he was in his physical prime at that age. Seems he lost some passion for the game too maybe. Happens to the best players sometimes.

Chara is a horse, I swear I remember reading that he can do the most on the Bruins

My favourite gif of his is when he downs a coke bottle during the playoffs.

I'm glad we've come to a compromise.

I miss the NHL in 2005-06, some posters can argue all they want about player's stats being inflated but that was one of the most entertaining seasons ever.

You are so wrong. You don't get as good as he is with just "natural talent"

I can agree with that. Man not seeing a player get even 90 points is a downer

What is your exact definition of "physical specimen"? The way I look at it, a player doesn't "become" a physical specimen one year and then lose that status later. This is why these players are so rare... you have to be born with not just one gift, but a set of gifts. Say what you want about him, but there are very few players in the history of the NHL who have had that level of speed, physical domination, and scoring prowess.

You don't lose it? Yes you do, it takes some natural talent yes but it also takes hard work and dedication.

So are you telling me Ovechkin deliberately got fat because he thought it would help him? What hard work was it that he put forth to gain all that unwanted weight?

Was it this kind of hard work I suppose?

Not ironically, it was around this time that Ovechkin's overall numbers (there is more to an offensive player's arsenal than goalscoring as Ovechkin was a better playmaker in 2005-06 and 2006-07 with worse linemates than he is now) started to dip.

Basically, who's the name first name that comes to mind immediately when "Who is the greatest physical specimen to ever play in the NHL?" is ask?

Eric Lindros is the very first name that came to me.
