Tough question to answer for sure.

Yeah, not sure about the Hollies, sounded too much like Buffalo Springfield/CSNY to me.
King Crimson is a good call. Great band.

I guess the Hollies did sound a bit like CSNY but in my book they are miles better.

One of my favourite bands was very successful in the mid 90's with their debut album Frogstomp. That success lasted at least until 2000 with their third album Neon Ballroom.

I'm talking about Silverchair.

All the obvious ones (Three Dog Night, Dave Clark Five, CNSY) have already been mentioned.

Words like "successful" and "forgotten" are subjective and can mean different things to everybody, but....

Big selling-artists who are rarely mentioned today:

Carly Simon
Sly & The Family Stone
Rickie Lee Jones
Joe Jackson

Artists who were critically-acclaimed at the time, but are rarely mentioned today:

Graham Parker
Soul II Soul
Living Colour
Arrested Development

And how; I've only ever heard of two of those bands (April Wine, 54-40).

Would agree with 54-40, used to like them more than the Hip.

Big Sugar (yeah, I know, cancon) is still one of my favourite bands, but they've gone to a more reggae style since returning to active status.

These are forgotten by history? I hear every single one of these bands every day on Rock 101. Where I work, the shop radio has a homing function. Change the station to whatever you want, and it'll wind up on the classic rock station before very long even though the morning hosts are beyond moronic.

"CFMI 101.1 FM Vancouver. Tired of the same old sludge day in day out? Good! Neither are we!"

Can also add Kim Mitchell/Max Webster, Aldo Nova, Platinum Blond and every other Canadian band over the last 40 years in there.

I would vote King Crimson, as well. Toto is another good band not talked about too much these days. And Wishbone Ash and Ten Years After are two, not-so successful, but awesome bands I rarely ever see mentioned by anybody - anywhere!

Some good British bands that never made it big over here and had 'one' hit wonders...

Wheatus (Teenage Dirtbag)...They had a lot more hits and they were pretty damn good.

Chumbawamba (Tubthumping) ... I thought Tubthumping was good but a bit annoying. They have some good really, really good songs though and they are pretty big out in Europe.

Buffalo.

or

Angel City (NA) The Angels (Australia)

A quick glance and most of these bands are very popular. Not forgotten at all imo.

Under the radar & forgotten. Unique style. Later morphed into Foghat.
