Just looking at the standings after this game, and it's almost a lock that we will be playing either Pittsburgh or the Rangers. The first round of the playoffs for either of those teams is going to be a huge battle against us. I believe it is not crazy we can beat both those teams in 7 game series. We just need to play our very best.

I thought this was a really heart-warming picture from the game

Bryzgalov's poke check against DC in the shootout

Why is that not a penalty? He doesn't get anywhere near the puck and he takes the player down.

What is the rule? Was it deemed to be a genuine attempt to play the puck even though it got no where near it?

I was also wondering the rule on this. If a goalie intentionally trips a player before the shot is taken in a shootout/penalty shot what happens?

It looked to me like Bryz straight up tripped him

According to the main boards, no infraction was called because the puck was already beyond where the Cap player could reach it and keep his momentum toward the net.

The shootouts are evil for a goalie, as long as he doesn't shoot the guy on his way in i don't think they'd call it.

I was also puzzled after the poke check, but after further review Johansson lost the puck and it was already out of reach when he fell.

You know, as many times as guys come in on the goalie in the shootout and practically run them over, I have nothing against a goalie taking a guys skates out. If they're not going to penalize one, don't penalize the other. If they start calling the running of the goalies, then I have no problem with calls against goalie for tripping during a shootout.
