Thats good news. He will be the calming influence the Habs need and the help Molson needed, at least until the new GM is really ready. And that kinda tells me a guy with not too much experience as GM will be named. Someone like Brisebois maybe.
Not the worst thing if he respects his boundaries. Will he? Not so sure. Then again, maybe just maybe it might open the door to hiring someone who doesn't read Molière every night.
I heard Francois Gagnon this morning on the radio say that he thought this was a sign that the Habs were going to sign a rookie GM and that he thought Julien Brisbois was the leading candidate.
I hope he's wrong about Brisbois. This is a guy who was brought in by Gainey, so don't you think he'd have left some imprint on him? Also, he was not brought in as a "hockey" guy but as a cap guy do to his strong background in sports mediation and law. Is this the kind of guy we want to run the Habs?? Call me crazy, but are you telling me the Habs can't find a better candidate and they want him as the GM for years to come to bring that stability. I feel like it's a bad move if it comes to fruition.

Both Bergevin and Loiselle would be rookie GM's as well.

Gagnon has been pitching Damphousse and Brisebois since day 1 .. his opinion on this subject has as much credibility as Melnick saying Mcguire is the leading candidate.
Also, I do not think Brisebois is tainted by Gainey, nor do I think one misjudgement makes Gainey some evil to the Habs franchise. There was a lot of great stuff from Gainey so to have stuff rub off isn't such a bad thing. Anyway, Brisebois is his own person and personally I think he'd be good but recent reports said, as posted above that he was too much of a "pencil pusher" and not a "hockey guy".
What I would do to be able to teach simple French to a couple of people around the league. Summer course!
