I really think Carlyle could play the sheltered 3rd line role well for the Kids. Just comes down to if Colborne is capable of stepping into that role.
"Could" and "Will" are two seperate things, keep in mind Carlyle loves to use his 3rd line as a defensive shutdown line I doubt he'll put the kids on it. For Colborne to make this team it will have to be in a top 6 role, that or he'll need to show Carlyle he's above average in his own end.

That attitude is going to be the death of this team.
We have the skill to roll 3 lines. That is how we need to play.

So your telling me that you'd prefer all skill and "run'n gun" as opposed to a defensive structered system? We have tried this "all skill" approach for over 10 years, it was cute at first but it has gotten real old and real ineffective really fast. If you look back at all the teams to win the cup since 04' and even teams that have simply gone deep in the playoffs its because of strong goaltending and a defensive first system, run'n really died in the mid 90's.
